Tiller family: No plan to reopen Wichita clinic

WICHITA, Kan. — The family of slain abortion provider George Tiller says there is no plan yet to reopen his Wichita clinic, despite earlier comments to the contrary from a Nebraska doctor.

The family issued a written statement through Tiller’s attorneys Tuesday, a day after Dr. LeRoy Carhart, of Bellevue, Neb., had said the clinic would reopen next week. Carhart is one of four doctors who worked at the clinic.

Carhart said Tuesday that he apparently misunderstood Tiller’s wife, Jeanne Tiller, when she talked to the staff about the clinic’s future on Monday.

Dr. George Tiller did much more than just provide abortions. That is not the distillation of his existence. He was a licensed and legal medical doctor that provided OB/GYN services to women, including safe and legal late-term pregnancy terminations.

He and his staff provided grieving families foot and hand prints of their children, gathered other momentos and helped plan funeral services. Never forget that these children were wanted and loved, but suffered from significant and severe abnormalities. He and his staff went above and beyond for their patients because they knew and understood that strong political rhetoric had painted such an ugly picture of what society would have otherwise sheltered as grieving parents.

I hope they reconsider and not let the murderers (yes I know only one person pulled the trigger but we all know who were calling for it) of their loved one end what he believed in and worked hard for.
