Eighteen Missouri Couples Wed In Iowa City
Source: Cedar Rapids Gazette

Their walk down the aisle was short, but their journey toward marriage was long.

Seventeen same-sex couples from the St. Louis area traveled more than 250 miles to Iowa City on Friday to wed — something their home state of Missouri won't allow.

One by one, in a 90-minute-long ceremony at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Iowa City, each couple was joined together in a marriage officially recognized by the state of Iowa.

A bus loaded with gay couples from Missouri travel to Iowa City to tie the knot in my church, the Unitarian Universalist Society of Iowa City! Great article with pictures below. Yay! Marriage Equality in Iowa!

So far I have not felt any attraction to the box turtle that lives in my back yard. I think my 24year marriage is still safe.

It's only a matter of time. Soon you'll be chatting just for the shell of it. That's how it starts. Then you'll make dinner plans. Just friends, of course. Then you'll have too much to drink and he'll invite you back to his pond. Then one thing will lead to another...only a matter of time, I'm telling ya.

16. You're wrong!
There was an orgy on that bus! Gays cannot stick with one partner! They swapped so many times on the way to Iowa that they forgot who they originally started with! It's not possible that gays can fall in love and stay with one person (he says as he glances across the room at his partner of 20+ years.)

6. How dare those people try to be happy!
There's nothing in the Declaration of Independence that says anything about people trying to be happy. This is UN-American! :P

7. UU church should have sued to overturn Prop 8 in CA on religious grounds....
being members of that church, it was obvious to our group that a religious grounds suit would have had more possibilities than just a vague civil rights or constitutional rights suit as gay marriage is a component of our alleged beliefs system (at least here in CA, don't know about the boston brahmins crowd).

11. My rabbi would marry gay couples were it not for the state not issuing marriage licenses
I think a challenge on a First Amendment grounds is a good idea. Denying gays the right of marriage is establishing a religion's doctrine as the official religion of country.

15. What more appropriate way to celebrate than a poem ... "Valentine" by Carol Ann Duffy
(OK, I heard it on the radio, and maybe you've already read/heard it too, but it bears repeating well ... )

Valentine By Carol Ann Duffy

Not a red rose or a satin heart.

I give you an onion.
It is a moon wrapped in brown paper.
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love.

Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.

I am trying to be truthful.
Not a cute card or a kissogram.

I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful as we are,
for as long as we are.

Take it.
Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding-ring, if you like.

Lethal.
Its scent will cling to your fingers,
cling to your knife.

To all DUer's, of whatever orientation, persuasion, inclination, predeliction, tendency, preference, or even (*gasp*!) choice ... may you find your onion.

OK, maybe not that persuasion.
