Houston gets its first local swine flu patient
Source: Houston Chronicle

The Houston area’s first local resident to be diagnosed with swine flu has been confirmed in Fort Bend County.

Officials at Fort Bend County’s health department said early Wednesday evening that they just received confirmation of the case from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The resident, a teenage girl, was not hospitalized and is recovering, said the officials. She is a student in Bellaire at Episcopal High School, which starting Thursday will close through the weekend.

The illness started in the middle of last week, and she was treated by a private medical center. She had not recently traveled to Mexico.

1. So how did she get it?
You have to wonder how she was exposed. Who had it before she did? And did they simply not contact a doctor or a clinic? And how many others did they expose? One of the things that is so odd about this is how it is not exploding the way influenza usually does. A case here, a case there. And yet it obviously is being transmitted all around the country.

3. From the same bunglers who thought...
...that the Iraqis would greet us with flowers--comes a botched attempt
at punishing Obama for not dropping the torture issue.

Yeah. I went there.

5. I wouldn't normally jump up and say its planned, but I do agree with you that there is something
about the way this influenza is traveling, or rather "erupting" in spots, is making me wonder about it. And even though I know its the nature of the coronavirus to take on dna matter from other viruses, I find it fascinating that this "superbug" is a combination of human, swine and avian flu. It does make one wonder if this was a strain created in a lab that got loose. How and why it got loose is another question, but something doesn't seem to be typical of the outbreak of an influenza here.

Then again, Pachamama (mother nature) has ways of sometimes eradicating the things on her when she is threatened.

:hi:
