Former Utah Congressman Bill Orton was killed Saturday afternoon in a four-wheeler accident in the Little Sahara Sand Dunes. He was 60 years old.

He served Utah's 3rd district before Cannon beat him in 1996.

2. How awful. I remember when he snagged that seat in 1990
The most conservative district in the nation.

He beat Karl Snow who had ethics problems and who also ran a really nasty ad in the Provo Daily Herald the Sunday before the election mocking Orton's "family" (he showed Orton's portrait and called it "Orton's family".

Two days later Orton ran the table against that Republican, in Happy Valley of all places!

Nice guy too. What a shame.

4. Yup. He was also one of only a few Dems in conservative districts to win in 1994.
Which was another surprise, because Republicans thought it was a sure-thing.

To put this in perspective, imagine a moderate Republican winning Nancy Pelosi's district.

3. When I think of how fast I went on a 3 wheeled ATV one time... my cousin driving...I cringe.
