Former (Republican NH House) legislator charged with assault
Source: Nasua Telegraph

HUDSON – A local man who drew national attention nearly a decade ago when he was elected to the New Hampshire legislature despite his stance advocating the killing of police officers was arrested this week in connection with an assault, police said.

Tom Alciere, 49, of 28 Mobile Drive, turned himself in to police Tuesday morning on a warrant charging him with misdemeanor assault, police said.

The warrant was issued following an investigation into an incident on March 26, in which Alciere is alleged to have "grabbed" the 12-year-old daughter of a neighbor, according to a police report.
...
A well-known opponent of local and national government control, law enforcement personnel, and the education system – he's referred to schools as "government indoctrination centers" – Alciere rocketed to infamy in the first days of 2001 after his highly controversial anti-police sentiments became public in the wake of his November 2000 election to the New Hampshire legislature.

Alciere, running as a Republican, won one of three seats for state Representative in District 29 – which is Nashua's Ward 4 – by defeating incumbent Alphonse Haettenschwiller by 55 votes.

Less than two months later, however, Alciere found himself in the national and international limelight when reports emerged connecting him to statements in which he wrote favorably about killing police officers.

In one story reported at the time, Alciere allegedly said he loves it when someone kills a police officer, but he is "too chicken" to do it himself.

I remember the original story. This guy got elected to the NH State House (not a big deal - there are 400 reps in there, and they get paid about $100 /year - may be more now - so people either run for altruistic reasons or occasionally for ego gratification - no one checked into him too closely - but after he was elected there were a bunch of news reports of how he had posted online under the name "copkilla" or something like that, and how he hated cops, and was happy when he heard one was killed, and so on and so forth. The ensuing outcry forced his resignation (if I recall correctly, it was that, or impeachment).

So now he's back in the news again, your average everyday Republican.

4. Our education system stinks. Just look at ALL the voters...........
..........We start educating our citizens on the order of the Europeans, we might get similar electoral results. Admittedly some good and some bad, but more often than not better results than we have had especially for the last 30 yrs.

2. I lived in NH for ten years - trust me, I know...
We had a local state rep who was a "get rid of public schools" asshole. Building a new school would have cost about 9 million at the time we became involved in the process. They held the vote in the high school and there were two pay phones. Every year, just as the vote was coming up, this asshole (STATE REP mind you) would consume one of the phones to call everyone on his list to come vote against the new school.

We moved out about ten years ago. I found out later that a school was FINALLY approved at a cost of 17 million. The asshole actually COST the town money - and a LOT of it because it was the same fucking floor plan!

3. I've lived here since about 1990

Pretty much anyone who really wants to can be a legislator.

We don't pay enough to get responsible people. As I wrote, we either get people who run for altruistic reasons (which is great), or for ego gratification, but usually the seats aren't worth fighting over. Thus, occasionally, you end up with an asshole like Tom Alciere.

6. I don't believe people pay money to campaign in order to make $100 a year out of
the goodness of their hearts. Call me a cynic.
