Senate Republicans back Coleman all the way (to SCOTUS)

Senate Republicans are backing their beleaguered colleague in Minnesota, saying former Sen. Norm Coleman should push his election case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Coleman has been battling Democrat Al Franken since November for the seat that used to be his, but recent court decisions have moved against him in the legal battle over the recount. Franken technically has a 225-vote lead, and last week a decision gave him a stronger chance of clinging to it.

But Coleman's colleagues in the Senate say they trust him and his legal team, and are willing to support a bid to the U.S. Supreme Court if the Minnesota Supreme Court rules against him.

"I'll back Norm as far as he believes he should go," said Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.). "He's there on the ground, he's the one with the best information and he's a good and honorable man. It's very hotly contested, very close, and there's a lot of questions."

35. I think there is another reason. From 2000 to 2006 the Democrats literally did nothing

using the excuse that the republiCons were in control. They even supported a number of the horrible republiCon bills like Iraq resolution. Patriot Act, and MCT. The Democrats in the Senate didn't even bother to filibuster. They just went along. When Ned Lamont tried for the Senate as a DEMOCRAT, the Senate Democrats turned their backs on him in favor of good-ole-Lieberman. Now that the Democrats have control, they now have blue dog's to support the republiCons. Harry Reid doesn't want to criticize the blue dogs that will throw the power to the republiCons.

This all looks very suspicious to me. The republiCons and corporate America always seems to win.

It makes sense if you recognize that the war isn't between Democrats and republiCons it is between the middle class and the ruling class. Seems many if not most Democrats support the ruling class.

In addition it was the Presidency in a time of war - not one of 100 Senators. The fact is that Ohio would have had to declare electors by Jan 6. In 2000, it was said if the election was deemed tainted the legislature would have jurisdiction - Ohio's legislature was Republican.

Even now there is NO proof Kerry got more Ohio votes - most means used to suppress the vote were not even illegal. Let's say Kerry did fight it to the Supreme Court - the same court that awarded the Presidency to Bush. In 2000, Gore had the popular vote, in 2004 Bush did. In 2000, there were still ballots to examine and a chance Gore would gain the lead. In 2004 there were not sufficient errors on cast votes that could lead to Kerry winning. The same lawyers who supported Gore, told Kerry there was no chance.

As to 2006 I have no idea what you are talking about.

and obtain, another "emergency" ruling from the USSC, similar to what they got in Bush v. Gore.

The USSC is far more partisan now than it was in 2000. Is any other outcome even conceivable?

25. What Is The Federal Issue For Coleman

To use in an appeal to the Federal Courts? I don't see a hat for Coleman to hang an appeal on. Will the Federal Court accept a political appeal when there is no legal basis? It would make them a laughing stock if they did.

At this point it is not about Coleman getting back his seat but instead blocking Franken from being seated. I don't understand why Franken isn't seated pending final appeals. That would certainly speed things up if the real goal was finding the real winner. In fact, I would hope that the Minnesota Supreme Court would order the certification of Franken as the winner. The election was a full five months ago. There is no excuse for this dragging out this long. None.

Just rolling things over and I'm wondering, is there any way voters in Minnesota could file a lawsuit against the Coleman campaign for denying their rights to representation? Just a thought. I'm sure if it was possible it would have been done and maybe has been done.

The SCOTUS gambit is just another delaying tactic. If SCOTUS refuses to hear the case, the GOP will probably take it before the United Nations. So long as they can keep Franken from being seated, they are winning. And Normie can happily go on collecting his paycheck from his real job with the Israelis.
