Burr delays Duckworth confirmation
Source: Raleigh N&O

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina is delaying the nomination vote and swearing-in of injured Iraq veteran Tammy Duckworth for a top post in the Veterans Affairs administration.

His actions angered some veterans groups today.

"Senator Burr has had plenty of time to ask questions of her," said Jon Soltz, chairman of VoteVets.org, an organization of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, in a statement.

"Senator Burr is only hurting American veterans with this nonsense. He should stop playing petty partisan games, stop needling the White House for the sheer fun of it, and grow up." . . .

Ugh. More motivation to throw him out of the Senate in 2010. What an embarrassment.

2. I can't believe he's doing this to a double amputee veteran.
He ought to be ashamed, but Republicans don't know the meaning of the word.

congessmen who carried on the bag colliquy on the House floor some years back: "Scott Klugg had a paper bag on his head and Burr was the dummy.) Some things never change.

4. Showing their true colors.
How to support the troops. Ought to have quite an impact on the veterans vote.

5. here's a first draft of my anti-Burr ad--wish a vet group would play it

I don't think Burr's behavior's going to play too well with the military regions in NC, which are growing due to base realignment and closure. We need to sow the seed now for his removal in 2010.

(montage of her, news article with photo of her mentioning helicopter crash, heroic pictures, vet clinic pics, etc, etc, ) "She believed in America enough to sacrifice her legs to fight for our freedom. She believed in our veterans enough to work selflessly in Ohio to improve their quality of care. But when Tammy Duckworth was asked to continue her important work for veterans across our nation, with widespread bipartisan support, Richard Burr didn't believe in her.

As an American Hero, she was there for Richard Burr when he needed her. But when Tammy Duckworth and thousands of other injured veterans needed his support, where was Richard Burr? (montage of images of Burr with most odious Bush Administration officials and his CEO buddies in Charlotte) Richard Burr trusts CEOS that destroyed millions of jobs, threw hundreds of thousands of hardworking Americans out of their homes, and gutted Americans' retirement savings, but (montage to Fort Bragg, Camp Lejeune, etc.) he doesn't trust a real American Hero.

These may be Wall Street values, but they aren't North Carolina's values.

Poor judgment. The wrong values. As a North Carolinian, tell Richard Burr that you want him to commit to supporting our nation's injured veterans."
