Pakistan: Would-be suicide bomber shoots himself
Source: Associated Press

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) A would-be suicide bomber shot himself dead Thursday when mourners confronted him at the funeral of a Pakistani police officer recently killed by militants, police said.

The bomber panicked and ran when people at the funeral in the northwestern Batkhela area grew suspicious of him, said Aziz Khan, a local police official.

It was unclear if the man had tried to detonate the explosives-filled vest found on his corpse. He was also carrying a hand grenade, Khan said.

The funeral was for a senior police officer killed along with four colleagues when militants fired rockets at their vehicles in the nearby Dir region on Wednesday.

1. What was going on in his head?
Repentance? Hesitation? Questioning his faith? Questioning his superiors? Guilt?

or was his explosive vest simply malfuctional?

Bet you could write a novel on that one.

Taliban Lash 17 Year Old Girl

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/articl...

17-year-old girl beaten by Islamic radicals in Pakistans northwestern region of Swat, where Sharia law was introduced after the government reached a truce with the Taleban in February. A local Taleban commander in the militant stronghold of Matta, 25 miles from the regional capital, Mingora, ordered the girl to be flogged a week ago after accusing her of adultery, according to local r More..eporters.

But some residents of Matta have accused the commander of ordering the beating to get revenge after the girl refused to accept his proposal of marriage.

Please! Enough! Enough! the girl is heard crying in Pashtu, the language of the tribes who dominate northwestern Pakistan now the main hub of Taleban and al-Qaeda activity.

At another point, she cries: I am repenting, my father is repenting what I have done, my grandmother is repenting what I have done...

The man flogging her is also heard abusing his colleague as he struggles to hold her down and stop her covering her backside with her hands.

You should hold her tightly so she doesnt move,

the mayor of Kabul who just approved Sharia Law throughout Afghanistan. :sarcasm:

The women of these nations have a very difficult life but they would rather fight for themselves than have "an empire" sort out the mess by killing their husbands and sons.

Taleban behead police officer in Pakistan: police

PESHAWAR, Pakistan - Security forces Thursday recovered the beheaded corpse of a police officer abducted by militants in Pakistans northwestern city of Peshawar, police said.

The body of inspector Tariq Khan was dumped on a roadside in Matani, on the outskirts of the city, local police officer Farhad Khan said.

He was slaughtered by Taleban militants. They placed his severed head over his body, he said. The police official was kidnapped by militants three days ago, Khan added.

He said it was the first beheading of a police official in Peshawar, although Islamist militants in restive tribal regions on Pakistans border with Afghanistan frequently kill local tribesmen and Afghan refugees.

Militants accuse them of spying for the Pakistani government, or for US and foreign forces battling the Taleban-led insurgency in Afghanistan.

The violence-plagued tribal region has has become a stronghold for hundreds of Taleban and Al Qaeda rebels who poured into the area after US-led invasion toppled Afghanistans hardline Taleban regime in 2001.
