China fury at US military report
Source: BBC News

Beijing has reacted angrily to a Pentagon report on China's military power, which claimed it was altering the military balance in Asia.

A foreign ministry spokesman called it a "gross distortion of the facts", and urged an end to "Cold War thinking".

In its annual report to Congress, the Pentagon said China was developing "disruptive" technologies for nuclear, space and cyber warfare.

It could be used to enforce claims over disputed territories, the report said.

1. China spends very little compared with the US, even as a share of its GDP.
China has doubled spending on its military in the past decade, and its economy has doubled in size as well. The US, however, increases its share of military spending over the same time, in part because of its wars against Iraq and Afghanistan.

This report expresses irritation that US domination would be challenged through enhanced self-defense capability. But more countries being able to defend themselves helps ensure stability and peace. If Iraq had a viable military, the US may have never invaded, for instance.

3. "altering the military balance in Asia."
Uh, last time I looked they were in Asia. With the most people, largest economy, largest army, etc. Who is it they are altering stability against?

4. What would you expect them to do, agree with the report?
China has been and continues to develop military technology that secures their position as the regional superpower and which facillitates their growth into a gloabl military superpower. I don't blame them for it but, at the same time, I wouldn't pretend like they aren't doing it either.

6. A collapsing empire cries “foul”
In the form of a US military report?

The last time I checked it was China that was buying the bulk of the T-Bills offered up. I guess they probably have a certain level of “say”. It sure as hell isn’t any of the Joe six-packs or Suzie mommies.

7. USA has their warships hanging around China's coast -
.
.
.

How much weaponry does China have hanging around the USA's coastline?

USA shut up and go home . . .

OR

Maybe China should park a few destroyers and aircraft carriers 200 miles off the San Diego coastline?

Russia do the same thing off Cuba . .

Japan patrol around Hawaii,

Iran put subs and warships in the Gulf of Mexico,

and so on - -

That would be fair wouldn't it?
