Sioux City JournalA political newspaper is reporting that U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, is one of four lawmakers claiming what it says is a wrongful tax deduction on a second residence in the nation's capital. The Washington, D.C.,-based Roll Call newspaper reported Wednesday that King is receiving the homestead tax deduction for his one-bedroom condominium in Washington, D.C.
According to the report, claiming the deduction allows D.C. homeowners a reduction of $67,500 on the assessed value of their homes, which saved them $573.75 in 2009 property taxes. The newspaper also reported the deduction restricts to 10 percent the amount the assessed value a home can increase from one year to the next.According to the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue, the homestead tax credit is for a person's principal residence. The congressman's official biography lists his residence in Kiron, Iowa, which is about 13 miles north of Denison.
Roll Call reported the three other congressmen, all Republicans, claiming the credit are Tom Petri of Wisconsin, Phil Gingrey of Georgia and Mike Rogers of Alabama.

Steve King on Feb. 3rd: "Confirming Tom Daschle as Health Secretary would be an insult to the millions of Americans who work hard and pay their taxes on time. If President Obama continues to press for Daschle's confirmation, it sends a message to the American people that paying taxes is irrelevant and unnecessary. This nomination represents the height of hypocrisy from an Administration that promised change and new levels of transparency in government."
So, IF this charge is accurate I know we can all expect that Rep. King will not be a hypocrite and he will immediately resign his office.
