Govs want to talk about National guard demands
http://www.kait8.com/Global/story.asp?S=1658577

Washington-AP -- The nation's governors are worried about increasing demands on National Guard units -- and are seeking answers from the White House.

Guard and Reserve soldiers make up about 22 percent of the forces in Iraq and that level is expected to rise to nearly 40 percent in the coming months.

At the same time, states often rely on their Air and Army Guard units to help in emergencies such as hurricanes, earthquakes or riots. In the past two years, their role has expanded even more, assisting in homeland security patrols.

....
Governors also worry about keeping men and women in the Guard. Republican Mark Sanford of South Carolina says he fears many will leave as soon as their tour is done.
