Report: Natasha Richardson dead at 45
Source: UPI

NEW YORK, March 17 (UPI) -- Natasha Richardson died Tuesday, a day after suffering a head injury in a Canadian skiing accident, a source close to her family told OK!. She was 45.

The magazine said on its Web site that Richardson's loved ones decided to take her off life support Tuesday after she was declared brain dead.

"The family is devastated," the source told OK!

The British-born actress was the daughter of stage and film great Vanessa Redgrave and the late director-producer Tony Richardson. She also was the sister of actress Joely Richardson and the wife of Northern Irish actor Liam Neeson, her co-star in the 1994 movie "Nell." . . .

Seems confirmed, now. Very sad. Her husband, Liam Neeson, and her mother, Vanessa Redgrave, are admirable people. But such a death is a tragedy in and of itself.

RIP.

it's this kind of thing that really makes me doubt it when I hear "everything happens for a reason". It seems that sometimes terrible things happen for no good reason at all. :-(

Very difficult role, and she nailed it, I thought. With Marton Csokas and Ian McClellan.

I loved her performance in the 'White Countess' and 'Blow Dry' with Alan Rickman. She was so talented. She was far too young, and left 2 young sons and her husband of 15 years. So very very sad. My heartfelt condolences to her family.

what a terrific actress she was. She could communicate a whole page of dialogue with a tilt of the head or wave of the hand.

The movie itself is a throwaway of sorts, but where else are you going to find Natasha Richardson and Alan Rickman together?

RIP, Natasha, and thank you.

Richardson 'Still Alive' Despite Online Reports

17 March 2009 12:10 PM, PDT

Natasha Richardson is "still alive" despite online reports she has died following a skiing accident in Canada.

The 45 year old fell on the slopes while taking a ski lesson at Station Mont Tremblant near Montreal, on Monday.

She was taken to Montreal's Centre Hospitalier Laurentien, before being transferred to the nearby Hopital du Sacre-Coeur de Montreal with a serious head injury.

The actress' husband, actor Liam Neeson, rushed to her side on Monday from the set of his film, Chloe, currently shooting in Toronto.

On Tuesday Time Out New York broke the news online that Richardson had died, claiming its editors had been tipped off by a close family friend.

The item disappeared from Time Out's website shortly afterwards and editors sent out an apology for reporting her death, but insisted, "We stand by our new statement that she is brain dead and not expected to survive."

Representatives for the star have yet to release any information about her status - but she is believed to have been flown to a second hospital.

OP's thread title isn't an exact match with the headline of the article as linked.

I think it is disgusting that this is on DU's greatest page and in the LBN section with this title.

43. Thanks for posting this. Please, please let her recover!
Having seen her mother, Vanessa Redgrave, in "Camelot" (my favorite musical) at age 12, I thought she was the epitome of grace & beauty in that film & she became a favorite of mine. Natasha has become a favorite, as well. I think she is the daughter that most closely resembles her mother.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. Please let her recover.

to NY if she was in serious condition.

If she was near death, the family would have gone to Montreal; instead of putting her through a grueling trip.

45. There but for the grace of God go I. I had a HELLACIOUS skiing accident
in 1978 while in college. How I avoided breaking my neck and winding up a quadriplegic or dead is beyond me.

How very sad for her family. I hope she didn't suffer. Way too young to die......

55. Get your facts straight
Edited on Wed Mar-18-09 08:32 AM by deramo
Before you publish a person's death, make sure your sources are credible and that your facts are correct. Come on guys, that's just elementary. She may be critically injured, but you can't broadcast someone's death if they're still alive just to break a story. I hope this actress survives this horribly tragic incident, my thoughts are with her husband and family.

56. IMO this thread should be locked
The linked story has now changed:

"NEW YORK, March 17 (UPI) -- Natasha Richardson is brain dead after suffering a head injury in a Canadian skiing accident, a source close to her family told the New York Daily News.

OK! magazine had reported on its Web site that Richardson had died after her loved ones decided to take her off life support Tuesday. However, the story was later removed without an immediate explanation. Time Out New York also reported her death on its Web site Tuesday, but later issued an apology stating Richardson was brain dead, but still alive."

57. Yep. I've alerted. It's still here.
I really hated feeling so fooled when I thought she was dead and
then read down and saw the conflicting stories.

I guess we can't count on LBN anymore.

58. Are you serious
Edited on Wed Mar-18-09 08:45 AM by deramo
a novice journalist knows not to trust sources such as OK magazine, and how about these so-called "journalists" do some more research before they go and do a copy/paste job on the death of a celebrity. Surely had these dopes waited, they would have discovered the highly publicisized conflict among the accuracy of reports..not that this is any of your faults, however it's still very troubling to me. Why would anyone think it's their place to make even a trace level amount of a guess on something as sensitive and tragic in nature as this. Follow one of the major stations for the most accuracy.
