Michael Steele: Abortion Is An "Individual Choice"
Source: Huffington Post

M: The choice issue cuts two ways. You can choose life or you can choose abortion. You know, my mother chose life. So, you know, I think the power of the argument of choice boils down to stating a case for one or the other.

L: Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion?

M: Yeah. I mean, again, I think that's an individual choice.

L: You do?

M: Yeah. Absolutely.

Well, Mike, it's been real fun having you as head of the RNC. You were a barrel full of laughs. I'm sure that this is the end.

A liberal in disguise is not what the right wing Republicans idiots wanted in their RNC Chairman. My buddy and I got a bet he will be gone by the end of the month. :hi:

8. Get to the part where he talks "state's rights".
It's an individual choice and roe v. wade should be overturned so the states can make that choice.

This dude is clueless.

20. yeah???
So, we can't have the Federal gov't allowing the individual to make that choice, it needs to be the State gov'ts that allow the individuals to make that choice. If they decide to. It's their choice. To choose to do that, or not.

Republicans. The party of choice. Or not. We won't tell you what to choose. Only your state should have that privilege.

However, the impact is somewhat diminished by the fact that Steele seems to have no idea what he's talking about.

24. The Pub dilemma: They cannot win with only the neo theos and they cannot win without
Edited on Thu Mar-12-09 03:00 AM by No Elephants
the neo theos.

If they try to broaden their appeal, they lose the strangehold they got on the religious extremists after they made their pact with Falwell, Kennedy, et al. Their only message is then greed and punishing those in need.

The neo theos may then be just as likely to vote with the Sermon on the Mount party as they are with the Pubs.(Which is why I think Obama has been courting the neo theos, even though that makes my head explode.)

On the other hand, if the Pubs continue to pander to their neo theo base, they lose almost everyone else.

I just hope that the Democratic Party does not go too far with intermingling church and state. If it does, it, too, will suffer.

37. The GOP So-Cons will not tollerate ANY non-Taliban view
on the subject! Even though the vast majority of Americans do NOT want abortion illegal in this country, they can't have anybody taking a chance with moderate views on that or any other subject. They're so screwed!

25. Intercepted note from Steele's life insurance policy holder:
Dear Mr. Steele,

Your recent comments concerning a woman's right to choose abortion or not as she wishes, while commendable,
constitute reckless, life-threatening behavior for a prominent Republican. Please be advised that your life
insurance policy with us will be considered null and void the second you step into any small aircraft, or
take the wheel of any vehicle smaller than a Sherman tank on any road or highway outside the limits of any city.

Yours truly,

I. M. Terrified, CEO

I'm really glad that the fundies will force this guy out. A moderate, pro-choice, African American leader might actually bring the party back to the Center, and that would be trouble for the Democrats.

38. It's too much too soon for them.
They can't go from being the far right/white yesterday to moderate/people of color tomorrow.

They're trying to flip the switch but they're about to blow the fuse.

39. Good analogy...
I just keep my eye on the calendar. I figure they've got about one year from today to get something put together or they're toast in the mid-terms. Every day they make war on each other is one less day they have to prepare for war with us.
