Liberal Talk Radio Network Sets Launch Date
Central Air Media has renamed itself Air America Radio and set a launch date of Match 31.

It will be interesting to see the stations they were able to buy and what cities they will initially broadcast in.

Can’t wait to hear some hard charging, funny and pointed talk radio from the left.

<snip> On March 31, 2004 Air America Radio begins airlifting entertaining, progressive talk radio to millions of Americans who for far too long have been and are being neglected by talk radio broadcasters today.

2. The Launch Date is Enough for Me
Be patient, the fact that they have set a launch date is enough for me.

Can't wait to enjoy the media reaction and the press they get.

3. I think Moore has a point though...
What we really need is a tv station!

5. I would Rather Have Talk Radio
Radio has a unique place in politics right now and I am happier to see a left/progressive radio network rather than a TV outlet.

6. I'm greedy.....I would rather have both TV and Radio
and not just a station, but an entire network of television and radio stations. We need something to counterbalance the nationwide hate tv(fox) and hate radio. Maybe in time in will happen.

4. I hope this spreads like wildfire!!!!
I work in radio and recently had to produce a week of conservative talk. ICK!!! I know, I know...but a job is a job and we need the money....in Dubya's economy everyone has to sacrifice, and I have made the ultimate sacrifice!!!
Anyway, I am hoping Liberal Talk takes big time. Two reasons, 1. Because it is soooo needed, and 2.because I am chomping at the bit to produce a local show here. All I need is someone with the brains, ego and chutzpah to host it.

7. it's about time! I'm sick of repuke hate radio!
The air waves are full of RW hate mongers. I think there will be a large audience desperate to hear from the liberal side.

Any idea the list of markets picking up this network?

9. Snip From Air America Radio Web Site
AS you can see from their site, the cities are listed but nothing has been formally announced.

<snip>Central Air will broadcast a full schedule of programming on radio stations they are close to buying in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Boston, five of the ten largest media markets in the country.

17. Nothing in Seattle??? Geez...
I know they're just starting up, but it seems like their "five markets" are already among the most die-hard liberal locations in the country, and they don't even have all of them covered! I just hope they'll have their programs available via streaming as well...

11. They need to target the RED states, especially.....
There are BOUND to be some swing voters that could turn red states to blue states in the next election.....not that it will matter if Diebold owns all the voting machines. But there are even many old-time conservatives who are really SICK SICK SICK of the regime that has hijacked their party. Just like there are many progressives who are SICK SICK SICK of the ditto-head corporate-suck-up DLC pansy-asses that have hijacked OUR party!

I can't wait to hear it! But if they're really going to make a difference, they need to blanket the southern states, and some of the conservative states elsewhere, where people need to start "getting a clue" about what's really going on, and how their energies (and pocketbooks) are being terribly mislead by tabloid conservative propaganda hate media.

:bounce: BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! FOR THE BRAVE SOULS LAUNCHING THIS! :bounce:

14. I assume their strategy is to win in these markets first.
Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 01:59 PM by americanstranger
Once they've got a couple of ratings books under their belts and other stations see that liberal talk is a viable format (Hannity's gonna get his puny ass kicked, people! Trust me!), then they'll start syndication to other markets.

This is going to work. The time is right.

15. No, they need to target the blue states first...

...they need to prove that there is an audience for liberal talk radio. That way they can sell advertisement. Big business doesn't care about the politics, they just want to reach consumers with their message. If they start this in the big liberal markets, and show that they have an audience of millions, they'll be able to generate the advertisement dollars to keep it afloat, and then expand into the red states.

That's what right wing radio did. Rush did not start in San Fransisco, or Seattle.

16. This is great news
My boyfriend hosted a progressive radio show for years until the owners got rid of all of them and replaced them with conservatives hosts. I wish he would get back on the air because he has the personality, experience and is extremely savvy in politics and business. We are in middle Tennessee and could CERTAINLY use some progressive stations in this area.
