I figured they would change their minds following the Stim Pack. I can't help but think this may have been done out of spite. Isn't Mexico a tax haven country?

2. This country needs to impose high import taxes to these companies.
It would be nice if an American company could take over it's old factory in Hershey. They could make a similar product and call it Liberty Peppermint or something similar. Americans need to get serious about where our products come from.

33. Americans just want cheap
Americans care nothing for the quality of the items they buy. Do you think Italians buy pasta from Turkey because it's cheaper? Can you get the French to give up Bordeaux for cheap Moldavian wine? That would be impossible. But tell Americans that processed Made in China cheese food with melamine in it is on sale at Wal-Mart and you'll get trampled by the horde trying to get it. :puke:

and it is dirt cheap compared to insurance costs here.

6. Here's Hershey's contact form - they need to hear from us as well

After reading about your decision to stop manufacturing at the Peppermint plant and kick another 260 American workers to the unemployment line so that you can move your factory to Mexico I am writing to tell you that I will never purchase another Hershey's product again (or any of your affiliated companies). Maybe once enough of us get tired of this and stop buying your products, you'll understand that cutting short term costs has even bigger long term costs.

Perhaps you should sit down and reread the Hershey's history on your website. Milton understood that building a good company meant building as a partner in the local community - not as a scavenger to fly off to new places once you'd picked the local carcass clean.

Don't even bother responding to this letter, as you've made your decision - and I've made mine.

on edit - i used [email protected] as my email - don't need their spam either

7. The putrid fruit of republiconomics
"Republicons are anything but 'conservative.' Their radical borrow-and-spend, run-up-the-national-debt policies have totally trashed the American economy (and environment, and honor)."

9. Poor Charlie Brown

I was wondering why Peppermint Patty always looked so perky (except in the mornings in class). All this time she was being replicated in a factory!

13. PA's Lt. Governor was wringing her hands over this
Before she died, Catherine Baker Knoll was absolutely ill over Hershey closing down and
moving to Mexico. She was a genuine people person, and was sick over all the lost jobs
as well as the company's attitude about the people that were losing them. I miss her, but
I'm glad she didn't have to see this actually happen.

23. I think they stopped most operations at Hershey East
I think most of the candy making at the original plant has been moved out, but they still produce candy at the Hershey West Plant, but even there they are slowly cutting back.

I think congress asks the wrong questions concerning the bailout money, they keep asking the trouble businesses "how are you going to become more profitable" They should be asking "How are you going to make more jobs in USA?" Afterall, what good is higher profits if there are no jobs, not all Americans are wealthy enough to live off investing.

24. I think every time they think they know how bad it is, it's worse
And like trying to catch a swarm of mosquitoes. There are ALWAYS more of them than you
can possibly catch. Bush acted like he was leaving the country with a cold, and it turns
out instead to be lung cancer.

on another thread. I have been a life long Hershey customer.
I grew up in WV but we were about an hour and 1/2 from there and went a couple times. Holidays will not be the same, I loved the chocolate and the peppermint patties. I will not buy them anymore and have stated that to them in no uncertain terms, I said the same to Levi Strauss when they packed up their jeans factory in Greensboro NC our neighbors worked there I lived in what was old Mill housing.
That these companies can be so heartless and pick up and fire the people that made their companies great for mere greed and stock holder profits. WTF is wrong with this country. My partner and I were made homeless when he was outsourced twice in 2002, we did land in a house, but to say it was substandard is an understatement.
So many folks are going to be homeless with no where at all to go, I wish I could do more than I can to help.

17. Milton Hershey is doing cartwheels in his casket. He was a businessman, yet the workers were #1
He did so much for his employees ... and for orphans (the Milton Hershey School was founded to educate orphaned children and children from disadvantaged families) ...

What is now HersheyPark was originally created as a picnic grove for his employees. Hershey, as a company town, was formed around the employees -- housing, etc.

Now, it's a company town with an identity that's being sent off to Mexico. I'm in Hershey quite often, and I always sigh when I drive through there now ... seeing what's happening to Milton's vision.

30. Yea I can hear.
The hum from Milton doing about 180Rpms all the way in Pottsville.
I remember reading or seeing in a doc some were that when they were building an extension onto one of the plants the Foreman brought in a bulldozer or some such Milton came to the sight and asked what it was the Foreman said "It a new earth moving machine it can do the work of ten men" he told him to get rid of it and hire 10 men.
with all the closings and layoffs around here I'm surprised any one has work its getting thin out there.

25. This is the Reading, PA plant.
It was announced some time last year that this was coming. A former Ludens plant, it made 5th Avenue Bars and York Peppermint Patties. I guess our nation's CEOs don't believe in America, yet we are to be flag waving patriots by buying all their foreign produced products. I'm ready for open revolt against our upper crust corporate types. The thing that astounds me is the morons on the right screaming "socialism" even when they don't have a pot to piss in!

32. I stopped buying Hershey's when they closed the first plant.
Their "chocolate" is nothing but oil and sugar with a pinch of cocoa anyway.

It's so hard to "buy American" nowadays, especially with such a global economy. But they won't get one cent of my money any longer.
