Trump Entertainment files for Chapter 11

Feb 17 (Reuters) - Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc (TRMP.O: Quote, Profile, Research), Donald Trump's casino group, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday, court documents show.

The casino operator had assets of about $2.1 billion and total debts of about $1.74 billion on Dec. 31, 2008, it said in its filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.

Nine affiliates of the casino operator including Trump Plaza Associates, Trump Plaza Associates, Trump Marina Associates and Trump Taj Mahal Associates simultaneously sought protection, according to the filing.

Donald Trump said on Friday that he had decided to resign from the board of the company due to disagreements with bondholders who wanted the casino group to file for bankruptcy.

Is full of shit. Free marketeers are morons--how else can it be that a stock that was worth $20 a share in 2006 is worth 23 cents a share today? Their whole ideology masks the truth, which is that the market is run by a group of collaborating insiders who use their informational advantage to extract cash for their own benefit and to the detriment of the public at large.

Oh, and how do you lose money operating a casino? Although those at the top often claim their outlandish wealth is due to their talents and genius, it takes a pretty dim bulb to run this sort of enterprise into the ground.
