Iraqi man dies after being hit by US army vehicle Updated at 3:23 PM
Source: AFP

A roadside bomb on Monday in Iraq's northern city of Mosul caused a US army vehicle to career out of control and crush a civilian, while sparking gunfire from American soldiers which injured six bystanders, police said.

The blast occurred in the central Ras al-Jada district of Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, a police officer said.

The explosion had apparently targetted a US army patrol which took evasive action during which one of its vehicles smashed into a car and crushed the driver, he said.

The civilians were injured when US soldiers fired their weapons, the officer said, requesting anonymity because he is not entitled to speak to the media.
