Governor recommends deep cuts to Colorado budget
Source: By Steven K. Paulson, Associated Press Writer

DENVER — Warning that Colorado faces a $1 billion budget shortfall through next year, Gov. Bill Ritter has recommended that the state close two prisons, cut education funding, impose an unpaid furlough for most state workers and slash more than 540 state jobs.

The proposal means $6 million in cuts from next year’s University of Colorado budget. That comes after a $7.9 million cut the university system is taking this year, ratcheting the budget down to $195 million from the state.

1. Ouch! On the other hand, if you paroled just the nonviolent drug offenders . . .
You could shut down a couple of prisons easily.

2. how many cuts till turn you into a "developing" state?
Somehow I think that idiots are running the show & they don't even realize what effects they're having. I'd cut METER MAIDS/PARKING COPS before anyone in CPS-easy, quick, & direct. I'd also renege on the State reimbursing for ALL TRAVEL, gas, lodging-tough times, too bad for you. But I have low expectations, so I guess they'll cut education:meals for poor American kids(so billionaires can live big), the disabled:sorry vets, sorry for all the rest, but we've seen this dance before, in 1991. The elderly gotta tough it out now, like that 1 90-something who froze to death in Michigan over an Enronesque bill.

How low can you go till you find you are a failed city/state.....nation? What is worth keeping-even at a great cost?
