SPECTER TO VOTE FOR HOLDER
Source: msnbc

Arlen Specter, the Pennsylvania Republican who is the ranking minority member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said today he'll support Eric Holder when the committee votes on the nomination Wednesday.

Committee Republicans had asked to have the vote delayed a week to further examine Holder's record and to seek written answers to other questions. Sen. Specter himself appeared highly skeptical during a confirmation hearing earlier this month.

But Specter said, despite what he views as Holder's mistakes in handling pardons and other issues, Holder "is entitled to the benefit of the doubt in the context of his excellent record." Specter said he was also impressed by enthusiastic endorsements from Louis Freeh, the former FBI director, and from James Comey, a former deputy attorney general under President George H.W. Bush.

Specter said he believes Holder will receive "significant" Republican backing but declined to predict the outcome. With the new Senate composition, the Judiciary Committee is now 11 Democrats and eight Republicans. It was was a 10-9 Democratic majority in the last Congress.

1. As a Specter constituent, I'm tempted to reverse my policy of not resorting to obscenity in writing.
But I will restrain myself yet again.

Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that his office phone has been busy/unreachable for the past week or so. Maybe he got the message, one more time. Finger in the wind, Arlen.

9. I gave up posting obscenities on Inauguration Day.
Seems that when * administration is mentioned on the news, it's actually good news (enforcement of subpoenas, possible war crimes trials) so I have much less reason to swear.

16. Give up posting obscenities?
Forget that.

(Disclaimer: This post was meant to be humorous, even if the humor is too subtle for you to understand. I will make it up to you later by posting a video of somebody being punched in the crotch.)

(Disclaimer disclaimer: The above disclaimer was directed at DU readers in general, and not at Betsy Ross.)

2. Specter is up for re-election in 2010
and the only way he can win is if (Democratic) Philadelphia votes for him (again).

moves on prosecutions of Bush, Cheney, Rummy et. al. for war crimes.

5. I wonder if our e-mails and calls
Made him change his mind. And to talk about Holder's mistakes when Specter was the Magic Bullet nut and helped in the 9/11 commission to not find blame.

7. Even though I am quite glad . . .
Edited on Tue Jan-27-09 09:11 PM by scytherius
Specter ALWAYS does this. He makes noise like he is going to take a stand, and then finds a reason not to do so. He's more spineless than Harry Reid. However, I am glad it worked in our favor this time.

10. With Spectre, I would require that promise be in writing, in his blood, sworn over a bible,
notarized by John Roberts, and signed in front of several ordained priests as witnesses ... and then I'd be wary that he would vote FOR Holder ...

Spectre has a history ...

14. I called five or six of his offices. Also, Holder showed what
a bully Specter is when Eric pushed back hard, telling Specter he was coming very close to questioning Holder's integrity, not just his judgment. Was beautiful to her Arlen back away!
