Jill Biden to Teach at Northern Virginia Community College
Source: WSJ

The White House announced today that Vice President Joe Bidens wife, Jill, will continue teaching as an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College, known as NOVA among locals.

Jill Biden has been a teacher for nearly three decades and will teach two English classes at NOVA this semester. I am thrilled to return to the classroom to continue working with community college students, whom I greatly admire and enjoy teaching, Biden said in a statement. She previously taught at a community college in their home state of Delaware, and she earned her doctorate in education in 2007 with a dissertation on student retention at community colleges.

The White House also said that Biden, in her capacity as the vice presidents wife, will continue to focus on education issues. Last week, she invited 200 children in the Washington, D.C., public school system to be the first guests in the vice presidents residence.

3. It's so nice to have good role models for our nation's children
I took some courses at NOVA when we lived in Vienna, Va. years ago so I could get some requirements I had missed to get into the teaching grad. program at George Mason.

5. Does she get SS protection?
That could be a bit awkward.

But I'm happy she's going to actually go to work. What a marvelous role model and what a great example.

Republican spin: Why is she taking work from real Americans?

10. yeah, a Delaware new article mentioned both of those
The SS protection, and nuts in the comments section about her taking someone's job. One smarter commenter pointed out that if she wasn't working, the same folks would be calling her a public welfare freeloader.

And I'm thrilled she's keeping her own career - a good model for political spouses!

6. A Teachable Moment Re: Adjunct College Teachers
Folks like me toil with no retirement, no medical care, barely-above-minimum wages -- even with ever-increasing unionization -- yet we teach over 60% of all classes in all universities.

I look to her to be an advocate for our cause.

11. I hope so too.
I quit the adjunct gig myself a while back. Bigger workload, fewer benefits, lower pay, less security than the "real" faculty.

8. How cool
I was just thinking back to my days at NOVA yesterday when after 33 years, I started my first day of classes at a community college in NC. It feels so strange at my age, but I am doing what I can to gain new skills so I can get a job.

What a co-inky-dink to see NOVA mentioned.
I am delighted to hear that Jill Biden has made this move.

13. Imagine being a teacher with the power of a couple armed secret service guys in the room...
"I said be quiet!"

I'm glad she will continue to teach. What a wonderful role model!

Much better role model than Laura who seemed mostly to show young girls about how to wear drapery and upholstery.

Over-reliance on adjuncts and part timers and under-paying us compared to our full time colleagues.

15. This is awesome for our Education
system. Between the Obamas and the Bidens we should be taking the incentive to learn up a few notches.
