MINNEAPOLIS (Map, News) - Former Sen. Norm Coleman hasn't given up on his hopes of winning his Senate seat back, but he has a new job nonetheless.

Coleman has joined the Republican Jewish Coalition as a consultant and strategic adviser. Coleman is awaiting the outcome of his lawsuit challenging the outcome of Minnesota's U.S. Senate recount that ended with Democrat Al Franken on top.

The RJC announced Coleman's hiring Thursday. The group says Coleman will advise it on policy, help with recruiting and deliver speeches around the country.

The group wouldn't reveal Coleman's pay.

Coleman takes a job

Last session's senior senator from Minnesota Norm Coleman, still battling Al Franken to be seated in the Senate, has taken a paid job as a consultant to the Republican Jewish Coalition, which harshly attacked Obama last fall, its executive director, Matt Brooks, said.

Coleman will join the group as a "consultant and strategic advisor," and will also travel the country fundraising on the group's behalf, Brooks said.

"It's an opportunity for him to, now that he's got some down time on his hands, to really help us while this case is being adjudicated," Brooks said. "He hasn't given up at all" on retaking the Minnesota seat.

Asked about how the group will afford Coleman, Brooks said that he hoped Coleman would boost the group's fundraising by tapping into his own network of donors.

And though Obama won better than three quarters of the Jewish vote in November, despite the group's efforts, Brooks said he didn't view it as a failure.

"We had an impact on forcing him to make that visit to Israel, and I think we forced him to take much more clear pro-Israel positions," he said.

but they have money. My local NJ Jewish newspaper had huge ads from them before the 2004 and 2008 elections - though in both cases they clearly influenced few people.

Jewish Press (though I think there were even more in 2004) when Kerry got a similar percent - even though 59 % of the nation at whole told gallop the the country was going fairly well or very well. That year was a bigger test of the Jewish vote.

So, in other words, Coleman's new "job" is a commissioned salesman/fundraiser. I suspect he'll be as popular as that "friend" many people have who has just started selling life insurance.

I mean, after your wholly meritorious and well-taken lawsuits and legal arguments totally sway the Minnesota Supreme Court and all the people of the State of Minnesota to give you another six years as their Senator, you'll have to quit your new job. How will that look on your resume? Or will you just not put it on there?

I agree; this is as close to a concession speech as Coleman is likely to make.
