Poll: Tax cuts boost support for Obama stimulus plan

A national poll indicates that nearly six in 10 Americans support an increase in spending to pump up the economy, and there are even higher levels of support for a plan that involves tax cuts.

Fifty-eight percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Sunday say they favor increased government spending to stimulate the economy, which has been in recession for more than a year. Four in 10 of those polled oppose increased spending of taxpayer dollars.

Support for the stimulus plan jumps 13 points -- to 71 percent -- when tax cuts for individuals and businesses are added to the package, and opposition drops 12 points, to 28 percent.

"Barack Obama's plan to reach out to Republican members of Congress with a tax-cut component to his stimulus package seems to be working with the GOP rank and file," CNN polling director Keating Holland said. "Most Republicans nationwide oppose a stimulus plan that only has increased spending in it. But support for a stimulus plan with tax cuts climbs to 70 percent among Republicans."

The package to stimulate the ailing economy is a top priority for Obama. The president-elect traveled to Ohio on Friday and delivered a presidential-style speech to push his plan....

Clinton cut taxes for the middle class and raised them for the wealthiest. When Clinton was elected America was in severe recession on a downward spiral. Every single Republican united against Clinton's Proposed Budget and said it was impossible to raise taxes during a recession. It would lead to the complete economic collapse of america. Clinton's Budget was passed by one vote, Al Gore's, and America went on to experience the "Greatest Economic Expansion in History" and the "National Debt Clock" was turned off for the first time in decades.

Compare that to Obama where GDP will contract probably 3% in the first half of 2009.

Middle class people and lower income people will spend that money and cycle it through the economy.

Why should it work now? All this debt simply means that states and cities will raise taxes to recoup what they are not going to get from the federal government, making it a wash.

Stupid MSM. Why don't they poll a real question like "Do you want a $10 per week tax cut, or the government to guarantee you have a job, guarantee your mortgage, your health care or extend your unemployment benefits for a year?"

The very wealthy are hoarding money, now. They aren't spending it. Since they aren't spending it, they need it taxed from them.
