Obama manager delivers reassuring message to Canadians
Source: Thestar.com

The mastermind of President-elect Barack Obama's campaign, David Plouffe, delivered a reassuring message to Canadians today during a visit to Toronto.

Speaking to the Economic Club of Canada, who represent the crème de la crème of the country's business community, Plouffe took a soft line on fears that Obama would shred the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada, or boycott Alberta's massive oil sands project.

"He's a very pragmatic person," Plouffe, who is in his early 40s, told the blue-chip audience over lunch at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. "He understands how tied together we are economically."

During the primaries last year, Democratic contenders Obama and Hillary Clinton both indicated they'd re-open the NAFTA pact, which could mean new trade barriers, and severe economic consequences for Canada.

1. I think that many Canadians (including myself) realize that there are many....
aspects of NAFTA that are not good for Canada, just as there are things that are not good for the US. So yeah, lets reopen it (but please wait till we get rid of the Harper Govt. first).

2. No Reason
To reopen it. Scrap it.

Start with an agreement that is made for society not just for the corporations.

Reopening something and patching it up to get accolades from the local media does nothing. Start with an objective that is worth something.

8. With all due respect, we really don't know where Obama stands here.
Just like we don't know where he stands on a lot of issues. He flipped on this issue repeatedly during the campaign.
