Truce Deemed "Risky For The Palestinian Resistance;" U.N. Aid Worker Killed


(CBS) This story was written by CBS News' George Baghdadi, reporting from DamascusThe Hamas leadership rejected on Thursday an Egyptian truce plan for the Gaza Strip for lacking the "valid basis" that would secure Israel's pull out of the Gaza, reopening all border crossings and lifting the blockade against the Palestinians.

A statement by the Damascus-based ten Palestinian factions, including Hamas, said they "didn't see in the Egyptian initiative any valid basis for any acceptable solution as it includes articles deemed risky for the Palestinian resistance and its future."

It added that the aim of the Egyptian move was "to impose restrict on the resistance movement, blockading it while giving the enemy the free hand. The initiative could only help the enemy achieve the results they are unable to attain so far."

The Palestinian factions said it questioned the participation of Arab parties in the plan, but didn't name these countries.

Hamas intentionally provokes Israel into attacking. Israel inevitably goes overboard with it's retaliation, causing Palestinian civilians to get killed, then Hamas uses the casualties to legitimize it's continued shit-stirring. It seems like the only side that is acting reasonably is Fatah.

Its the same deal as it was before...they lay down all their arms and essentially recognize Israel's right to exists...the border opens and goods come in. They rejected that and the blockade began. The ceasefire ended and Hamas stated they won't honor another one unless they blockade ends...they weren't exactly thinking, they don't have the leverage on the negotiating table. Sad reality is, Hamas assumed their "Arab Brothers" would help them out economically and politically. They assumed wrong, the fact they won't mention the other Arab players in the deal means they don't have the support they thought. Now they are on this as it appears demented thinking if enough people suffer, Israel will be pressured to pull back and perhaps even open the borders....

They overplayed that hand too much. From the Israel view, they are going to look like the bad guy no matter what...so why not be the bad guy if your going to take the fall for it anyway. Does that make it ok? Nope...but what has been "Ok" in this region for awhile. And their "Arab Brothers" will give plenty of lip service of support for Hamas...but won't lift a damn finger (perhaps because they are tired of paying in money they need themselves), Hamas doesn't realize yet that their not going to get help and that they now have two choices, go legitimate or go extinct.

And the real loser in all this? the Palestine people. They were tired of the corruption of the Palestinian Authority...and no doubt thought when they voted Hamas in, they would honor peace agreements. Hamas instead mistook there victory as a mandate to go to war....sound familiar?

It just doesn't mater what religion or what people....Religious Fundamentalist are like rats, once they devour everything around them, they then devour their own.

Damascus - An Egyptian proposal to halt fighting in the Gaza Strip would serve Israel rather than help Hamas, a statement by the Islamist Palestinian movement said Thursday. "This initiative seeks limiting the Palestinian resistance while freeing the Israeli occupation and helping it achieve some of the goals it failed to achieve by its military attack," Hamas said.

"We also refuse to deploy international forces in the strip or international supervisors," the statement added.

Egypt hosted a Hamas delegation on Tuesday in an effort to ease the onslaught in Gaza, halt rocket fire and present the proposal that was initiated by President Hosny Mubarak.

The proposal calls for a cessation of violence, allowing aid to reach civilians, along with a call for the Israelis and Palestinians to take steps to make sure another conflict does not erupt, which could involve dispatching several forces to Gaza. It also includes an invitation to discuss ending Israel's blockade on Gaza.

If they hate it too, then maybe we've got a workable compromise.

But I do hope that the Arab countries involved are truly looking out for Gaza's best interests, rather than caving to Israel to prevent a refugee crisis, among other personal concerns.
