Real Estate Executive Found Dead in Apparent Suicide
Source: Wall Street Journal

Real-estate executive Steven L. Good was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday in his Jaguar in a forest preserve outside Chicago, said the Kane County Sheriff's Department.

Mr. Good, 52 years old, was chief executive of Sheldon Good & Co., one of the nation's largest real-estate auction firms. His father had founded the company in 1965. Whether the apparent suicide had any connection to the business is unclear. Real-estate auction companies can do well in downturns.

As chairman of the Realtors Commercial Alliance Committee, Mr. Good said last month in an industry outlook press release that market conditions were "very challenging."

2. The French investor in New York who
slashed his wrists in his office just before Christmas, Rene-Thierry Magon de la Villehuchet.

We'll see more and more.

The windows in those Wall Street buildings don't open. Almost impossible to break, too.

was he was German and named ADOLF! Born during Hitler's reign. Apparently he made a success of his life anyway? Why kill yourself now-maybe it was the name-I thought no one was ever named that after Hitler and those that were changed their names?

3. Turn out the lights, the party's over
I don't know how many of these we're going to see, or even if there will be one simple explanation for this or any other suicides of formerly high-flying moguls. But I can't escape the feeling in my own heart that the kids have had their big, blow-out, trash-the-parents'-house party, it's 7 p.m. Sunday, and Mom and Dad just phoned from the airport that they're grabbing a taxi and coming home. And the trig mid-term is tomorrow morning, and sonny boy hasn't even cracked his book open. And maybe he didn't pull out of Sally Sue in time. And Sally Sue's boyfriend, the ultimate fighting trainee, is the jealous type, and Sally Sue likes to blab and see her boyfriend beat other guys into guava jelly.

10. and we probably won't hear of the other poor people who just use a handgun to air out their brains
Or overdose on a medicine cabinet of pills, etc.

I could care less for the millionaires. But even in death they get more notice than the average guy who has lost their homes and their livelihoods because of these rich motherfuckers and their hedge funds.

I think you need to read your post again. That's pretty sick. There are lots of Democrats in the same boat. Along with lots of Republicans. Nice, normal, Americans who worked all their lives trusted that they would have nice retirements. Will you rejoice when they start committing suicide as well? Hopefully one will thrown themselves in front of a bus and decide to take you with them. You are disgusting.

24. Real Estate mogul Steven Good found dead in apparent suicide
Source: Daily Contributor

An executive of a large US real estate company was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound Tuesday in his Jaguar in a forest preserve outside Chicago. A maintenance worker discovered the body of Steven L. Good, 52, behind the wheel of his Jaguar parked in a lot at the McGraw Wildlife Refuge near East Dundee, authorities said.

Good, chairman and CEO of Sheldon Good & Co. Auctions International LLC was a major figure in Chicago real estate. There was no letter found in his car indicating a motive and it was uncertain whether his death was connected to his job.

According to the company’s Web site, Sheldon Good “has sold more than 45,000 U.S. and international properties in more than 100 different classes and produced more than $10 billion in sales.”

45. There is no death tax in 2009...
Remember the "tax cuts?" They sunsetted the estate tax for 2009 only. Interesting that this stuff has started. I am not so sure that we won't see a lot of rich types "suicide" themselves.

50. So basically if you steal lots of money and then commit suicide..
Your family gets all of it tax free?

Sounds like we need to revisit this issue asap. Otherwise these ultra-rich criminals are stealing the money TWICE and getting away with it.

47. Exactly. Where were HIS bootstraps?
I guess he was just one of those irresponsible, deadbeat, morally weak, poor people in disguise, who deserves no sympathy or compensation for their losses and misery which he profited from.

So say the self-serving fictions people like him propagate to justify their thefts from all of us.

I hope that 10 seconds after he did this, he found out there really is a God.

39. It's not funny.
But we're angry enough to take a moment of savage pleasure at the downfall of the rich. The real horror is yet to come. When the working families die together because they have no hope.

I read a book about the year 1000 AD. It mentioned terrible famines in the previous years where sixty or seventy people would join hands and jump off a cliff rather than starve slowly.

Our economy has failed at the moment our climate is changing. Unless we do everything right, it could be worse than we have ever known.

35. Dropping like flies, a German billionaire commited suicide yesterday too
Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 01:50 AM by 48percenter
Adolf Merckle.

"In December, German billionaire Adolf Merckle gave a rare interview to defend his failing investment strategy.

“We are now lumped together with hedge funds, while in fact it was a growth strategy that allowed us to fund companies that are fundamentally healthy,” he told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. “I have already overcome many of these so-called market crashes, but I could not have anticipated a financial and banking crisis of this size.”

On Jan. 5, Merckle threw himself under a train near the southern German town of Blaubeuren, where in 2005 he lived in a flat-roofed bungalow with a nameplate outside. The suicide was confirmed by a statement from his family, for whom Merckle left a note. A man who answered the family’s home phone number declined to comment further."

36. Live only for money...
I've got the Crash Blues right now myself, in a big way. But it's not the end-all-be-all. Yeah, I'm worried about my kids. But every day I get to see their faces, every single day I can walk outside and look up at the sky and know it's full of stars behind those clouds, and that we might get to go exploring there one day, and every day I can still afford to feed those two homeless cats behind my building (I built 'em a hidden heated shelter) is a damn good day.

Anyone contemplating suicide over this foofaraw should read Barbara Tuchman's 'A Distant Mirror: The Calamitous 14th Century'.

The 14th Century Dick Cheneys burn people alive on every other page, with lots of entrail pulling and gang-rape to boot. The Black Death killed ONE THIRD OF THE HUMAN POPULATION OF PLANET EARTH in a ten year period, for Pete's Sake.

This just isn't that bad. Modern Wimps, these Blue-Chippers. State of mind.

Jeez.

I once considered suicide, over a failed three-day marriage. Lived in a van for a year with my dog.

Chickened out. Found beauty in simply living. Lived.

These guys need to watch 'Harold and Maude' in the worst way.
