Steve Jobs has hormone imbalance, will remain CEO
Source: AP

NEW YORK – Apple Inc. founder and Chief Executive Steve Jobs, a survivor of pancreatic cancer, said Monday that a hormonal imbalance is to blame for the weight loss that has prompted worries about his health.

Jobs, 53, said he will undergo a "relatively simple" treatment and will remain in charge of Apple.

"A hormone imbalance ... has been `robbing' me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy," Jobs said in a public letter, adding, "Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis."

Speculation about his health percolated in 2008 as Jobs appeared gaunt at public appearances. Those worries intensified after Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple said in December that Jobs would not be making his annual keynote address Tuesday in San Francisco at the Macworld conference.

1. While I wish him well, I have a feeling this might not be the whole truth.
Doesn't Patrick Swayze have the same problem? He's not looking too hot, either...

3. That story was denied.
He's working on the lead for a TV series. I'm not saying that I know for sure he's not sick, but that story you posted is over a month old.

11. He lost me when he did his rant against teachers' unions, but he's a character...
(He had a snit fit, partly because not all the school districts were shelling out money for macs like how they used to... I don't know of any union that has a "no fire under any circumstance" clause, and given the unruly state of children and teachers' inability to get to control them, I would support a no-fire contract too. Until the core problem gets resolved.)

Someone else responded Steve may not be telling the whole truth about his health. Probably a very shrewd observation -- for Steve is a businessman, under what circumstances is he allowed to actually tell the truth? (apart from when there's a legitimate quarterly profit, of course.) Didn't Apple's stock plummet the day some blogger posted he had a heart attack or something? If the stock market is THAT insecure, of course he's not going to tell the truth about his health condition! Precedents have been set!
