WASILLA -- A 42-year-old Wasilla woman was arrested Thursday at her home by Alaska State Troopers with a search warrant in an undercover drug investigation. Sherry L. Johnston was charged with six felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance.

Johnston is the mother of Levi Johnston, the Wasilla 18-year-old who received international attention in September when Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, announced their teenage daughter was pregnant and he was the father. Bristol Palin, 18, is due on Saturday, according to a recent interview with the governor's father, Chuck Heath.

Troopers served the warrant at Johnston's home at the "conclusion of an undercover narcotics investigation," said a statement issued Thursday by the troopers as part of the normal daily summary of activity around the state.

Troopers charged Johnston with second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance -- generally manufacturing or delivering drugs -- as well as fourth-degree misconduct involving controlled substances, or possession.

Wasilla must be one partying town. I wonder if wingnuts will play guilt by association with this item.

3 months ago: Sherry Johnston, mother of Levi Johnston, talks about her son at her home in Wasilla, Alaska Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008. Levi is the boyfriend of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's unwed, pregnant daughter and he'lll join the family of the Republican vice presidential candidate at the party's convention in St. Paul, Minn.

One of the assistants who works with my dentist was telling me of experiences they have have doing reconstructive dental work on meth users. Meth users drink so much soda and carbonated beverages that they literally dissolve their tooth enamel, it gets to the point that the tooth enamel becomes like a grape skin, just the slightest pressure and the tooth splats like a squeezed grape!

So why do I have the feeling that this might just disappear kinda like
the Troopergate thing?

Not good for a lead in to 2012 is it ?

but from my years working in the legal biz here, I've noticed a lot of that sort of thing coming out of Wasilla, I'm not sure why. More from Wasilla than Palmer, its sister city out there in the Mat-Su Valley. That's just anecdotal, of course - I don't have statistics - but it was noticable to me long before Sarah Palin's rise.

Alcohol consumption rates reflect the prevalence and severity of alcohol related problems. The alcohol consumption rate in Alaska has been higher than the rate in the rest of the nation during each of the last 14 years, and is well above the Healthy Alaskans 2010 goal of 2.2 gallons or less per person per year.

For instance, from those figures, 1.19 gallons of beer per year is about 13 beers (330 ml each) per year. One beer every 4 weeks isn't a feasible average for the US. But if the beer is 5% alcohol, and it's the measure of pure ethanol, then it'd be an average of 5 beers a week - much more believable.

Todd has to do it because Sarah will just be glowing in the aura of her own AWESOMENESS

"This is not a state government matter. Therefore the governor's communications staff will not be providing comment or scheduling interview opportunities."

I'm sure she'll have a panel review the situation and clear herself of any guilt by association.

Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 10:13 AM by Lasher
So the baby is due tomorrow and no wedding cake. Check.

Now how about Sarah's new clothes? Remember when she got so indignant about it, saying they weren't her clothes and she was going to give them back? I haven't seen anything in the news about the clothes being returned, have you?

68. And we all have John Sydney McCain III to thank for unleashing this
Alaskan version of the Jerry Springer Show on us.

If not for McCain we probably would never have heard of any of these people. Thanks a lot, John, through your boneheaded choice of Palin you've provided them with a permanent place in our headlines.

compared to this stuff!

It certainly does make us stay tuned to the shenanigans up there, doesn't it!!

72. 'Troopers released no other information, including the kind or amount of drugs, because..'
'...details could jeopardize an ongoing investigation.'

What garbage.

Anyone involved knows what drugs she had.

Saying the public needs to be in the dark because of an 'ongoing investigation' is something the Bush Administration does.

75. Ah yes, the values of the 'real America'. To quote from Mrs. Palin,
" the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America.”

and

“We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty, sincerity, and dignity.”

http://www.gothamgazette.com/article/issueoftheweek/200...

I guess abiding by the laws doesn't fit in with the honesty and wonderfulness of small towns.

77. When someone gets arrested
Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 10:45 AM by The Wizard
by the State Police for violation of State laws this is not an appropriate response.

When asked about the arrest, Palin's spokesman, Bill McAllister, issued the following statement by e-mail: "This is not a state government matter. Therefore the governor's communications staff will not be providing comment or scheduling interview opportunities."

How fucking dumb do they think everyone else is?

127. You are correct.
If it was not a state matter, the arrest would have been made by the Wasilla Police Department, not the Alaska STATE Troopers.

78. I don't like Palin. But I take no joy in this news. Drug problems touch many families.
And my family is no exception.

There is plenty to criticize Palin for, but I won't blame her for something that her daughter's boyfriend's mother did. I hope that the lady can get treatment and be able to kick her habit, and I hope that none of her children are involved..

Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 05:57 PM by peaches2003
Or has this family gone off the deep end since Sarah took them over? Would anyone in their right mind be able to handle their son being the unwed father of the Palins grandchild, just witnessing what we have of Sarah and the Dude. Looks like Levi might have been able to escape, but who knows what his parents are being put through. I'd turn to drink or drugs, too.

And it's actually EIGHT YEARS OF METH USE... See some the links below for the true horror show:

This is a interesting link with several photos of different meth users:

81. this is the out Sarah was looking for
with the future in laws involved with drugs she can now say that she doesn't want her daughter marrying into "that" kind of family and she can say it with a straight face too. Since the wedding was a sham anyways.
