NYC cop indicted, knocked down cyclist on YouTube
Source: newsday

'NEW YORK - A New York City police officer who was caught in a YouTube video body-checking a bicyclist to the ground during a protest has been indicted by a grand jury, his lawyer said Monday.

Officer Patrick Pogan must report to the Manhattan District Attorney's office Tuesday morning, said lawyer Stuart London, who declined further comment until he can see the exact charges, which remain sealed. The district attorney's office would not comment.

The bicyclist, Christopher Long, was arrested July 25 during a Critical Mass bicycle ride through Times Square. The monthly bike rides are held around the world to draw attention to alternatives to motor vehicles.'

4. Good. But there really should be some sort of special prosecutor to handle
these kind of indictments. The DA's office is far to closely involved with the police department to be trusted with processing this sort of case.

6. "deliberately steered his bicycle into an officer" Er, no he didn't. The vid clearly shows he didn't
The officer in question began walking towards the sidewalk, eyes fixed on approaching potential victims, and the bicyclist is clearly visible in the video trying to stear around the officer (before he was body-checked right off his bike) to AVOID a collision the officer tried to instigate. No wonder the prosecution dropped the charges against the bicyclist, a judge would have body-checked their case to dismissal anyway.

9. About time
Hmmm...let's see what we have here. Assault, false arrest, false testimony, yep those are some nice felonies there. Doubt he'll get charged with all of them, but I'll take what I can get. Enjoy jail officer Pogan.

10. Perhaps even more than that
With any luck he'll lose his job as a police officer and this incident will keep him from getting another job as a cop.

His next job might be at McDonald's asking you if you want fries with that.
