Gang-rapists of girl, 14, are named
Source: Guardian UK

A judge ordered yesterday that seven teenagers who gang raped a 14-year-old girl in a brutal "punishment" attack should be identified in a bid to deter other young men from similar crimes. Judge Wendy Joseph QC warned the defendants, some of whom were as young as 13 at the time of the incident, that they faced jail sentences for the attack in Hackney, east London, as the court heard that the victim been driven to attempt to kill herself.

She was singled out because she had insulted the leader of a local gang, the Kingzhold Boys, the prosecutor, Nicola Merrick, said. She was dragged by her hair between a succession of tower block stairwells and landings in an ordeal that lasted around an hour and a half. She was taunted, hit, threatened and orally raped by an ever-growing crowd of teenagers summoned to the scenes by mobile phone. By the time they reached the final scene, 15 boys were present. Some of the attacks were filmed on phones and shown to others later that night. ...

The court heard the victim had told the girlfriend of Denton, who was known by the nickname Hitman, she thought he was a "tramp". After the girlfriend passed this on to him, he threatened the victim on the phone and in the street, scaring her so much she went to stay with her grandmother out of the area. But on the day she returned, April 30 2007, Denton was waiting with Ibrahim, Raymond and Ryan and the rape began. At one point, she spotted someone she had known for years: a friend. But as she turned to Cleon Brown he looked her in the eye and said: "I can't help you now, I'm with my boys." Soon afterwards he too raped her. ...

Police said the defendants had seemed shocked at being found guilty. "I can only assume they never thought this would get this far," said Burks, who led the case. "There's been no remorse shown by anybody."

2. The effects of the rape will haunt this girl for the rest of her life
Even with counseling, she is likely to have flashbacks. It can effect her physically in many ways as well as psychologically. Her self worth and feeling of safety have been shattered. That these defendants "seemed shocked" is disgusting. They should be locked up as long as the law allows. I only wish there was some way to treat the mindset that caused these boys to act like animals. Perhaps a study of their behavior and how this came to pass will help society deal with this sort thing better in the future. But that will not help the poor girl.

8. Rapists need to be punished in similarly soul-destroying ways
Let's get 15 rape victims to verbally abuse each one of them, while they sit handcuffed with a Vice-Grip or two clamped upon his penis.

You want to be "shocked", boys? Try THAT on for size. That's what you do to your victims, you spawn of hell!

4. Mob psychology ruled.
Aren't they old enough to have a conscience? Or does testosterone totally negate that possibility? To these boys a girl/woman is just a piece of ass for them to posses and violate.

13. 14 YO girls and boys
must leave home without it, at least in America.

However, I wish this crime had been attempted in a highly gun saturated, legal concealed carry American area and a civilian with a weapon, competence and a conscience had come across these thugs. A few (necessary and legally justified) funerals can be a highly effective teaching tool.

33. Fear of what? I fear my 401k statement
afraid to look at it. Waiting 180 days to open one.

No a firearm is simply about control of your space. Both my wife and I carry legally with CCW from time to time.

Situational awareness can prevent 99.99 percent of problems. For the .1 percent it does not, I have a fighting chance.

No more scary than carrying a cell phone. Handgun is an inanimate object.

This persons situation is quite different but rape and murder happen here and being armed just switches control from the aggressor to the victim.

but personally I think concealed weapon permits should be replaces with OPEN weapon permits.

If you are going to walk around extra prepared for violence, you should be required to let everyone know as soon as they see you.

36. Same reason I dont wear Patek
watch in some places. Inviting a problem. Why wear 1000 dollars in plain sight. You are standing out rather than blending in.

Concealed weapon provides a tactical advantage as you can CHOOSE not to get involved and not be targeted because you are armed.

If I happened to be in a bank that was getting robbed I would do exactly jack shit with a ccw. As long as no one was shooting at me, the situation does not require anything. CCW gives me that choice.

Plus it bothers some people, they get all concerned because a firearm is in plain sight.

9. I have testosterone,
and I take offense on two counts.

First, manliness is not criminality. Second, testosterone does not excuse violence against women or girls.

A rabid dog has the excuse that it doesn't know better; these guys have no excuse. That shows where they stand in my book--somewhere lower than rabid dogs.

To go along with the sex ed. Sex is more than just the biological act of putting a tadpole into an egg and carrying a raw egg with you for 6 weeks and ensuring it doesn't break yet not being able to put the bully who broke it into jail for murder.

6. "Some of the mothers we spoke to even blamed Jenny for getting their sons into trouble with the law"
Edited on Sat Dec-06-08 09:06 PM by Liberal_in_LA
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1092389/The-braying-pack-youths-gang-raped-14-year-old-schoolgirl.html

Another article with details on the boys and attack:

At the second in Skipworth Road, a woman walked past her. 'She was on that floor in that vestibule at the rear of the building, with no knickers, no trousers on, surrounded by these boys,' said the prosecution barrister.

'She was crying. The woman saw Jenny and didn't offer to help her.'

Then, as she was being led, traumatised, dishevelled and crying to the final location, there was another chance to save her.

'There was a woman in her car - or getting out of her car - and she had two children with her,' Jenny told the court.

'She looked at me and said to me: "Are you OK?'' She didn't actually say it. She just mouthed it and then I shook my head .'

'And then Hitman tightened his grip on my shoulder and he kind of barged into me with his shoulder.

'And then the woman winked at me, like to say: "Yeah, it's all right.'' I felt a bit more relieved that someone had asked me if I was OK and I thought maybe she was going to call the police and help me.'

She didn't dial 999, as far as we know. In the end officers arrived too late to save Jenny. They were attending a separate disturbance nearby. They saw Jenny emerging from the building and realised something was wrong

11. Incidents like this make Lord of the Flies sound prescient. These
boys were following a code cut off from the larger culture. Can anyone see any of them ever leaving their neighborhood for school or work? Don't we have the same situation in many if not most of our own cities? The fact that the names represent so many different ethnic groups suggests that hopelessness is the common denominator.

18. Freaking Yobs, Chaves, whatever the hell they call em
Sometimes I really am glad I live in America...
Of course the US has its hefty share of no good punk thug "kids" like these,
but it pales in comparison to the so called "yob" culture (as mentioned above in a post) These little hoody wearing, Burberry rocking (Yeah thats real gangsta over there) drunken narcissistic pricks constantly harass physically and verbally innocent and even kill law abiding citizens. And what the law does in return is little more than a slap on the wrist!
The Brits are really light on these kinds of crimes.

I'd love to see a "yob" come to America and try to pull some of that shit over here...eventually they're gonna cross the wrong person with a Charles Bronson vibe and a .32 Smith and Wesson.

DEATH WISH II
Bronson (to thug): Do you believe in Jesus?
Thug: Yes I do...
Bronson: Well you're gonna meet him. (BANG) :smoke:

20. Poverty and wealth disparity breed this kind of violence. Women and children become the targets
when men live with anger at a system that treats them like dirt and against which they have no recourse.

There is an increase in rape, domestic violence, child abuse and violence within the community whenever people live in despair and poverty within a larger, wealthier society that routinely calls them disparaging names, tells them that they are worthless and that they can do not better.

The class system in Great Britain is just as much to blame as the individual kids. Imagine growing up in one of their council flats on the dole with no future to look forward to.

Wealth disparity is a social ill which must go.

22. The dole is in fact evidence that the UK
Edited on Sun Dec-07-08 07:18 AM by FarrenH
takes care of its poor.

A lot of the UK's problem with teen gangsters is to do with an unchecked teen subculture and shitty parenting. Nothing more. The UK has its problems, but I think its a knee-jerk response to start laying blame at the door of the class system. Its a factor, but not the determining factor.

When I was over there recently, I was mugged by three 16/17-year-olds who just happened to step off a train at a quiet station before I climbed off. They were all wearing pricy-looking clothing and one of the boys had a BMX bike in mint condition. They looked like three middle-class kids with no other reason for robbing a tourist except that they could.

When I chatted to the cops about it they confirmed my view. In fact one of the cops said a surprising number of these kids even end up getting university degrees and going on to respectable jobs instead of becoming further involved in crime. They simply see their own criminal teenage behaviour as teenage hijinks.

In the movie British "Adulthood" there's a character exactly like this. As if to confirm this view, I sat next to a young man on the way back to SA who was visiting his doctor brother and was studying to be a chemist. When I told him about the mugging he gave me an in-depth account of the teen gangs in the area I was mugged, naming names of both gang members and "elders" in the area and all but admitting to his own involvement only a few years earlier.

It's been around since the beginning of time. Even old Yahweh was a proponent and the OT features some rather vivid descriptions of this type of violence. I would think that any woman who's been attacked or raped would probably find what you've written shocking and really insensitive.

None.

There's no making victims out of these rapists. They made a choice. They brutally victimized a young woman - because they could, because their male egos were at risk - who knows why, and frankly, who really cares?

It was vile. It's not in any way excusable.
