Bettie Page, one of the most notable models of the 20th century, is in intensive care in hospital after suffering a heart attack in Los Angeles.

Mark Roesler, Page's agent and lawyer, said Friday the 85-year-old was "critically ill." He said she suffered a heart attack Tuesday.

He would not comment further on her condition.

Page is credited with helping set the stage for the sexual revolution of the rebellious 1960s.

I happen to know a lot of "kids" in Seattle's more liberal areas, and Betty is still an icon for a lot of them. Something about that innocence and sexuality just never loses its appeal. You go, Betty. Get well.

it's a very sad story, the bettie we remember has not been for many a year, the way i heard it, she suffered from mental illness and religious hysteria and stabbed another woman

i hope she does get well, not just physically but also mentally well


either that or i hope the rumors i heard are just wrong but i heard she was quite a dangerous person to know when she was active in her mental illness

23. I read her biography a few years ago.

What a life. And not a particularly happy one. Her suffering included a long incarceration in a mental facility after she tried to kill her roommate. No matter, there was something about her that has always been irresistible.

33. This will probably not sound credible

but I assure you it is the truth. My best friend of 25 years has been a close friend to Bettie for almost 15 years. He formed the "Bettie Scouts of America" in the early 90's, the original Bettie Page fan club. He and his wife are among a handful of people who were trusted friends, who spoke with her on a regular basis and spent time with her.

Bettie's story has never really been told. It is an amazing life with twists and turns that have never been revealed in any book or movie. Some have posted asking why this was "breaking news".
I hope someday her story can be told for it is filled with issues that we fight for everyday on DU. She was more than a pin-up queen. I told my friend that DU had posted great pics and wishes for Bettie to get well and he was very appreciative. When I am at liberty to say more, I will.
