Jeb Bush Ponders Florida Senate Run
Source: The Atlantic

Sources close to Jeb Bush, including one who has spoken to the former Florida governor within the past few hours, say he is seriously considering a run for Senate now that incumbent Republican Mel Martinez has retired.

If he decides to run, Republicans expect the field to clear for him. Maybe. Gov. Charlie Crist, with whom Bush has not had the warmest of relations, is said to be interested in moving to the Senate. Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum is weighing a bid, as is former state House Speaker Marco Rubio, Orange County executive Richard Crotty, and U.S. Rep. Connie Mack.

11. We wish!
There should be some law enacted to ensure no person of that family can hold public office again. It's criminal, really. It's a total lack of family values.

6. There is no 'consideration'
by Jeb about running for the Senate. Ya think maybe the 'retirement' of Mel Martinez might have been forced so that Jeb could get back in the action and be ready for 2012/16? Palin will surely not be a contender and Huckleberry Hound and Mittens are jokes.

27. Jeb Bush considering Senate runUpdated at 4:18 PM
Source: CNN

(CNN) - Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is considering a bid for the United Sates Senate, Republican strategist Alex Castellanos told CNN Tuesday.

Republicans are urging Bush, the president's younger brother, to strongly consider making a bid for the seat currently held by outgoing Republican Sen. Mel Martinez. The first term senator announced Tuesday he would not run for reelection, setting off what's sure to be one of the most hotly-contested Senate battles in 2010.

Bush, who served as Florida governor from 1999 until 2007 and enjoyed high approval ratings, will take the next month to consider getting into the race, Castellanos said on CNN's The Situation Room. Castellanos is a CNN contributor. Bush also told the Politico he is "considering" getting into the race.

Should Bush decide to run, his presence would add immediate star power to a race Democrats are likely to make their top target in 2010. But the former governor, who has largely remained out of the spotlight over the last two years, could be hindered by his close association with the unpopular outgoing president.

31. This is where Dems need to get smarter: crush this baby in the crib
They had a chance to do so for the re-election of Schwarzenegger to California governor and instead of pouring everything they could into that race and ending his career, they gave the Democratic candidacy to a no-name cipher and then didn't give him the money or the party celebrities to stump for him that would have buried Arnold or at least made it close.

Now Arnold is in a position to run for Senate, making what should be a safely Democratic seat competitive.

And if the GOP gets their shit together and sheds the religious right or figures out a way to keep them that doesn't scare swing voters, they would run him for president (in spite of Constitution).

The same thing is true of Jeb. We think the Bush brand is tainted for ever, but he can speak in complete sentences and appear reasonable to people who don't look at policy details, and so at worst, would remind people of Papa Bush not Baby Caligular Bush.

Dems shouldn't leave it to some stumblefuck comptroller or insurance commissioner with the charisma of a mortician to run against Jeb--they should get someone with the star power to outshine him and give him enough money to bury Jeb.

Martinez was leaving and in walks Bush III right on cue. Pretty obvious this was the plan to take back the White House. These guys are like Al Qaeda..plans for attacks take years in the making. Sadly here in Florida republicans walk in lockstep. He will take Martinez place in '10.
