'Israel spy' put to death in Iran
Source: BBC

Iran has hanged a telecoms engineer convicted of spying for Israel, reports from Tehran say.

Ali Ashtari, an Iranian, was convicted in June of spying for Mossad, Israel's intelligence agency. A video said to be of his confession was broadcast on TV. He was convicted of sending "sensitive information on military, defence and research centres" for three years. Israeli officials were quoted in June as saying that Israel was not familiar with the case.

Announcing the execution, which reportedly took place on Monday, Iran's official news agency said the case against the 45-year-old was clear and his appeal was summarily dismissed. "He had spied for Mossad for three years," the state news agency quoted the intelligence ministry's director of counter-terrorism as saying.

Officials said Ashtari was recruited by Israeli secret services to intercept the communications of Iranian officials working in the military and its controversial nuclear programme. Broadcasting his apparent confession, state TV showed Ashtari sitting down wearing an open-necked shirt and jumper.

Isn't it nice to be in the company of Iran and Syria and the Sudan where state execution is the norm, as opposed to the rest of the civilized world like Europe and Canada..

3. Well, no. They hanged him.
If you're thinking of Israeli retaliation, don't bother. If he was a Mossad agent, them's the breaks. That's why they wouldn't let my cousin join when they found out he had a wife and baby. If he wasn't, no skin off their nose to begin with.

2. Oddly enough, last night I dreamt of Leon Klinghoffer.

Do you remember him? He was the Jewish, wheelchair bound man executed by Palestinian terrorists and thrown overboard the Achilles Laurel. A man, who with his wife was celebrating their 36th wedding anniversary. This was back in 1985, so I have no clue why I would dream something like this. Let's stop calling them, 'terrorists' and start calling them pathetic cowards. I'm sick to death of them. 'House Negro' indeed.

Anyway, this smells of the Nick Berg execution, and Daniel Pearl. Funny how Jews are always being publicly executed. NOT.

with oil going down the tubes, Iran has to protect its citizens from the many enemies out to destroy them ;)
So they televise a confession made under duress and proceed with the proceedings....

Iran is safe...for now.
Maybe the June invasion will be rumored again in early '09 lol

16. "What an obviously biased and idiotic post."
I agree. Your post is both biased and idiotic.

Israel does allow for state executions but the circumstances are for genocide, not spying, not being gay, nor for being a rape victim. Had your obviously blinding bigotry against Israel not clouded your brain, you would have understood that question everything was saying it is 'sad' the US (which preforms state executions) is on the same level as Iran (and others), as opposed to the more "civilized" nations of Canada and European ones.

Reading comprehension isn't just for third graders anymore, so look into it.

15. Iran Executes Man in Spy Case, and Blogger’s Arrest Is Reported
ever since Canada smuggled americans out of Iran , the mullahs have had it in for our northern neighbor
snip
A Web site affiliated with the Iranian Intelligence Ministry has reported that a high-profile blogger, Hossein Derakhshan, was also arrested this month and accused of spying for Israel. Judiciary officials have not confirmed his arrest but the Web site, Jahan News, reported that he had confessed to spying for Israel.

Mr. Derakhshan, an Iranian-Canadian, had lived in Canada since 2000 but moved back to Tehran a few weeks ago. He traveled to Israel in 2007 and wrote about it on his blog.
Abraham Rabinovich, an Israeli journalist who interviewed Mr. Derakhshan in Jerusalem two years ago, described him in an op-ed article for The International Herald Tribune on Friday as an “Iranian patriot” who through his blog “offered the first views of ordinary life in Israel that Iranians had been able to see.”

The Iranian intel hits Israeli websites but deny the general population the same right. Guess that would be hard to keep the straw man going. Can't have sparks of doubt's during the annual "hate week" holiday.

examples must be found, made and dealt with

17. IRGC busts Mossad 'spy' network
TEHRAN -- Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari announced here on Monday that the IRGC has broken up an Israeli spy ring.

Jafari said that the IRGC intelligence organization recently discovered that a Mossad spy network was active in the country, primarily spying on military organizations, and subsequently identified and arrested all its members.

He stated that the spy ring sought to obtain information on Iran’s nuclear plants, sensitive IRGC organizations, and military officials and commanders.

Advanced telecommunications systems and other high-tech tools for espionage were confiscated from the Mossad spies, Jafari said.

The spies "confessed" that they received special training in Israel to learn assassination and bombing techniques and said the Mossad provided funds so they could buy vehicles and equipment, the IRGC commander added.

The news came just two days after the director of the Iranian Intelligence Ministry’s Counterespionage Department announced that Iranian citizen Ali Ashtari, who was found guilty of spying for Israel, was executed on November 17. Ashtari spied for Mossad for three years and even contacted some foreign embassies in Tehran to establish contact with several foreign intelligence agencies
