Verizon fires workers over Obama cell phone records breach
Source: CNN

Verizon Wireless has fired employees connected to a breach of records from a cell phone used by President-elect Barack Obama earlier this year, a Verizon source told CNN on Friday.

The source would not say how many people were terminated, but said "we now consider this matter closed."

Verizon reported the breach Thursday, and Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said the transition team had been notified Wednesday. Gibbs said the president-elect no longer uses that phone, which has been inactive for months.

The fired employees were hired "to take care of customers," the Verizon source told CNN, and were not authorized to access customer records unless asked to do so by the customer.

5. While I agree with the privacy concerns - this is very common for employees to do
I work at a company that has a database of customers that have purchased all sorts of items... and believe me when I say most employees here at one point or another have searched it for names of people they know as well as famous people. It human curiosity and it most likely happens all the time and we are not aware of it. Does not make it right however, and unfortunately most consumers are unaware its going on.

That being said I personally have never searched for famous people on our databases. I

8. Verizon along with AT&T is the main culprit in the Bush scheme to
listen without warrants, so why is it surprising that they were monitoring Obama? It's what they undoubtedly did to Kerry and no telling who else. The underlings heads roll now that Obama is the one who rules. I hope both companies go down.
