Panel finds widespread Gulf War illness Updated at 3:23 PM
Source: Cox News

WASHINGTON - At least one in four U.S. veterans of the 1991 Gulf War suffers from a multi-symptom illness caused by exposure to toxic chemicals during the conflict, a congressionally mandated report being released Monday found.

For much of the past 17 years, government officials have maintained that these veterans -- more than 175,000 out of about 697,000 deployed -- are merely suffering the effects of wartime stress, even as more have come forward recently with severe ailments.

“The extensive body of scientific research now available consistently indicates that ’Gulf War illness’ is real, that it is the result of neurotoxic exposures during Gulf War deployment, and that few veterans have recovered or substantially improved with time,” said the report, being released Monday by a panel of scientists and veterans. A copy was obtained by Cox Newspapers.

Gulf War illness is typically characterized by a combination of memory and concentration problems, persistent headaches, unexplained fatigue and widespread pain. It may also include chronic digestive problems, respiratory symptoms and skin rashes.

their exposure to Deet, and other chemicals? Is their any method to the V.A. funding? Or is it all just doled out to Blackwater?

2. Same as Vietnam
Does the slowness in taking action to help Iraq vets by the
government surprise anyone? Remember agent orange? They are
still dragging their feet on claims by vets in the 6o's and
70's.

5. My cousin says that her nephew only pretended to take
some pills he was given in the first Gulf War while his friend actually took his pills. According to my cousin, her nephew did not get Gulf War Syndrome while his friend did get it. Has anyone looked into the effects of the meds the soldiers were given?

8. Many people have followed that idea, and reached similar conclusions.
It turns out that lot of the pills our troops were issued
prior to that conflict were "experimental" medications.

Medications so 'experimental' that the manufacturers couldn't
get their insurers to overwrite any sort of voluntary testing.

ORDERING enlisted personnel to take those pills and vaccines
was the ONLY way that any large-scale human testing could be conducted.

All our Desert Storm vets were guinea pigs; they were shot full of
new & untested shit just so the drug companies could see what happened
to a large group of people who were shot full of new & untested shit.

Amy Goodman has reported on units where wives have gotten cancers, where no healthy child was born after the deployment was over.

7. Are we surprised?
No, and many are dying before their time. Try Bu$h I as well as a War criminal!

9. My cousin was continually given psych references instead of medical tests...
until he finally collapsed and was rushed to the local emergency room. After they determined that his internal organs were shutting down, the VA hospital grudgingly decided that he wasn't suffering from psychosomatic symptoms and admitted him for treatment.

Fortunately, he's made a full recovery, but he was damn lucky not to have died or still be suffering from chronic symptoms.
