Obama Aides Heading to Georgia for Senate Runoff
Source: NYT/AP

Aides who worked in Barack Obama's presidential campaign are heading to Georgia to help Jim Martin in his hotly contested Senate runoff, two Democrats close to Martin's campaign said Tuesday.

The sources, speaking only on condition of anonymity on a matter of campaign strategy, said about 100 Obama field operatives will help with Martin's grass roots turnout in the three weeks left before a Dec. 2 runoff against incumbent Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss. They stressed that the campaign is still staffed primarily with Georgia volunteers. The Obama ground troops are coming mostly from other Southern states.

Obama's vaunted grass roots operation is credited with playing a pivotal role in his winning the White House.

Martin's campaign has asked Obama to pay a visit but hasn't received any commitment yet. Former GOP presidential candidate John McCain will be in Georgia on Thursday stumping for Chambliss....

1. Get that racists out of the Senate
I would like to see someone in the upper echelons of the Democratic party on the trail for Martin, maybe someone like Hilary or Howard Dean. If we can pick up Chambliss' seat we will be that much closer to getting this country back on track with as little possible GOP opposition

11. electoral-vote.com's take on that possibility:
Barack Obama is in a bit of a bind here. He would like an extra vote in the Senate, but if he campaigns for Martin, the press will see this as a proxy fight between Obama and McCain. If Chambliss wins, as expected, the headlines will read: "McCain Wins Round 2." For this reason, Obama probably won't campaign for Martin. However, Martin might be able to get one or more Clintons to help out. And since Bill Clinton is a fellow Southerner, that might carry some weight. Still, Chambliss is the favorite.

13. McCain is going down there tommorrow to help out Chambliss
according to Martin's diary entry over at dKos
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/11/12/113025/52/225/...

He's asking for volunteers and help. GOPer hate monger group Freedom's Watch is already running ads against Martin.

Not. Americans -- including Geogians -- have seen how VAST is the steaming, stinking crap-pile of republicon morality and incompetence.
