Calls for prosecution after German politician says Obama win 'a declaration of war'

German authorities have been called on to prosecute a far-right politician for describing Barack Obama's election as a "declaration of war" on white people and accusing his supporters of being "swept up in Obama fever which resembles an African tropical disease".

In a statement headed "Africa conquers the White House," Juergen Gansel, a deputy in the Saxony state legislature from the far-right National Democratic Party of Germany, said multicultural America was seeking the destruction of "pure" national cultures.

Accusing Mr Obama of aiming to destroy the US's "white identity", Mr Gansel said: "A non-white America is a declaration of war on all people who believe an organically grown social order based on language and culture, history and heritage to be the essence of humanity."

Warning that "Barack Obama hides this declaration of war behind his pushy sunshine smile," Mr Gansel, whose party sympathises with neo-Nazi groups, said that Mr Obama's election was the result of "the American alliance of Jews and Negroes".

He concluded by declaring his hopes that Mr Obama's government is unsuccessful.

54. In Germany it is - and for good reason

At flohmarkts any item with a swastika must be covered. Any display of swastikas and nazi materials is outlawed. I lived in E. Germany for a while and had one encounter with skin heads attacking a black man. They were actually punks and not very strong - pretty drunk. They were quickly arrested which I was glad to see. There are areas of Saxony and Saxon-Anhalt that still have groups of skin heads and I honestly never heard locals dismissing them.

I honestly think as this new wave of East Nostalgia becomes bigger there will be more leaning toward the extreme and the country is right in keeping this type of rhetoric illegal.

I travel in Europe frequently. It has been my experience to run into these types from Latvia to Italy to Britain to Sweden. I sometimes think the Cold war kept them from killing each other off. There are nationalist groups present in each society. Some groups always need someone to hate. However, they do require keeping an eye on and a once in a while prosecution might be in order. Hitler had that same thumping ignorance about America. Most of Hitler's knowledge of the U.S.came from Western dime novels written by Karl May. And May had never been to America, either.

That ignorance and its usual twin, arrogance, led Hitler to his second-worst military mistake. (Number One was invading Russia.) After years of violating agreements and treaties, he honored the treaty with Japan after Pearl Harbor and declared war on the United States.

That was an incredibly stupid move, and totally unnecessary. Popular (and Congressional) opinion in the U.S. was still somewhat divided on the idea of going to war in Europe. Quite a few Americans believed all U.S. resources should go toward defeating Japan first. Hitler made FDR's life easier by taking the decision completely out of his hands.

Most of Hitler's cronies were equally clueless about America. When the USA entered WWII, Luftwaffe chief Hermann Goering assured his staff they had nothing to worry about, since America could only produce "razor blades and refrigerators." One of those staff officers later joked that he sure needed some of those American refrigerators--i.e., the ones flying overhead and pounding German cities into rubble.

There are 3 neo-nazi parties in Germany: the NPD (from which said guy is from), the DVU and the Republicans ("Die Republikaner" REP). These parties agreed on a deal not to compete against each other in elections.

The only neo-nazi party worth worrying is the NPD, as she has gained several seats in a state parliament.
Her problem: The NPD is almost bankrupt due to internal corruption and breach of trust. As the NPD broke party finance laws, it had also to repay hundreds of thousands of Euros it got in taxpayer money. As far as I know, the NPD had to sell the building in which it's national center was located, to pay the money back.

When the red-green government made an attempt to outlaw this party in the early 2000s (and failed), it turned out that about 10% of the NPD leadership were Verfassungsschutz agents ... In addition, it was reported that their first leader in the sixties, Adolf van Thadden, was an agent of MI5 in Britain.

The NPD was founded as successor to the outlawed NSDAP, supposedly to provide a counterweight to the new party of the Communists (DKP) which became legal at around the same time.
