The White House says it has requested Bush's full military record now
CNN just reported it. Also said that they won't say whether they will release any of it or not. No link. I will look for one, and if none is available yet I will post the CNN transcript when it is up on the CNN site.

5. Haven't they said that twice now?
I agree with you here.

They keep saying they've released everything, then they dribble out a little more.

They really are screwing themselves badly on how they are handling this. And I'm glad of that. I think this dribbling out of the information makes the press even MORE interested.

14. The car salesman told me at least four times that ............
......."this is the absolutely lowest I can go" on the price of the automobile that I eventually bought.
Isn't it all so much 'buying and selling'?
Talking story.
Telling the truth?
Just what is the truth, anyways?
Or a lie, for that matter.
Nothing personal, I'm sure.
It's just business (as usual).

23. I'm surprised Scott McClellan doesn't take a question...
...then say something like, "Hmmm. Let me run that by my manager," only to return a couple of minutes later and say, "Yes, these are ALL the documents..."

Then another incriminating form surfaces and the charade is repeated again...

13. It would be real hard
for them to "maufacture" a living witness who remembered Bush in Alabama. It would be too prone to meltdown. Anyone who was lying about remembering him would easily be toasted on cross examination. No, they will flush out some kind of hokey document and say "case closed". Will it work? I'm not sure, anymore, that it will. The blood appears to be in the water.

that bring down the mighty. Something of a truism, but for a reason.

The media, I think, knows very well that the jig is up. I bet, behind the scenes, they're trying to find something to pin on * that'll stick. The first time ones of their number start being disappeared, we'll know :tinfoilhat:

I think this admin's days are numbered, and I no longer as strongly believe those days extend to November. My fear is that they'll get desperate to stay in power if they see something they don't like coming.

Desperate, cornered animals are dangerous. This particulr animal has Ultimate Power.

I dare not think what could happen.

...and first, tell me the purpose of the operation, and second, which agency has been running that operation since it was put into action.

That agency is at war with the occupants of the White House...that's why so much stuff has been coming out over the last couple of months. It all started with the "outing" of Valerie Plame.

The last two presidents to cross this agency did not survive their current terms in office: JFK and Nixon.

42. If I were chimp, I'd come clean. It would bring closure.
I'd hope people would forget about it by the election. Whether he admits it or not, he looks very guilty, and now he looks like he's lying on top of it even though he's not "technically" telling lies. Might as well say what really happened and try and say it doesn't effect how you run a country (aground, in Chimp's case.)

I'm glad they're going with the tried and true--one lie to protect another lie. The press is all over this. I love it.

9. In my mind, "release all records" means make all available to everyone.
They should be instructing the DOD, or whoever has them, to send them straight to CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, the NY Times, the Washington Post and the WSJ. THAT would be releasing the records. Not releasing them to yourself so you can review them first.

They might as well say "When we said 'release all records', we didn't say to WHOM. We meant to ourselves! You need to listen better next time!"

I also found it mighty interesting that the Post pointed out today:
"The typed documents are in contrast to the other documents in Bush's personnel file, which offer handwritten, detailed pages of dates of service in the earlier years." (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A30494-2004Feb10.html )

They're coming close to saying they have a hunch that these latest documents were more "recently manufactured" than "recently discovered".

15. Article here: Bush did his duty – six days in a year (snarf)
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 11:07 AM by NewYorkerfromMass
"...Yesterday's records release, however, still leaves unexplained gaps during Mr Bush's time with the National Guard, both in Alabama and later in Texas, and there is nothing to dispute past comments by his former superiors, who have no recollection of him reporting for duty...

The released material includes annual retirement point summaries and pay records. The documents indicate Mr Bush was paid for only six days during that 12 months.

He was not credited for any service from May to September in 1972. He was paid for two days in October and four days in November....

Senator Kerry, Mr Bush's likely election foe, would not go into the matter yesterday.
"It's not an issue that I chose to create. It's not my record that's at issue," he said. (ROCK ON JOHN!!!)

27. And those six days were just before and after the 1972 election
So you are left with a scenario where Bush goes off to work as an assistant campaign manager in Alabama, doesn't perform any sort of National Guard service for months, but suddenly runs off to put in some time just over a week before the election and then again a couple of days after.

I just don't buy it.

It looks more like he might have gotten special permission to skip the two training sessions closest to the election, and therefore was credited and paid for those, but not for the other sessions that he blew off.

into criticizing him. I'd say he's eager to discuss his own record, in which his achievements are clear, vs. the Chimp-in-Chief's.

I would have done the same; on this issue Kerry is easily in a position to politically taunt *. All the records- especially those being "released" now- support Kerry vs. *.

16. It seems quite clear
Just the way this issue is being handled by the White House Mafia is an indication of how nervous they are. It shouldn't be like pulling teeth to get these records, especially since it isn't going away, which is what they have been hoping would happen. I think if the true record of Shrub's Guard service is revealed, he will be toast come November.

38. Welcome Gina Marie
You're new here. Please join in. Stick around. You'll have access here to real news, research, analysis and debate that (I think) can't be found in many other places. I expect you'll learn allot about how the American political machine actually works (or doesn't) these days.

Personally I don't hate Bush. He'd be amusing if he were a TV personality or a village idiot, but the sad fact is he's a political puppet who has the lives and destiny of millions of human beings in his bloody, incompetent hands.

If you think the wave of resistance against the Bush regime is nothing but infantile resentment, it's not that simple. The AWOL issue is a weapon we (urgently) must use against those who hold our country and constitution captive to corporate greed and messianic dogmas.

If you keep an open mind, and read critically, you'll find DU a very rich resource for educating yourself.

44. from Gina
First, thank you Jokerman. I appreciate your kind of debating as opposed to the way the others responded. I feel that no one gets anywhere by spouting words that stem from such anger. If there was something for me to learn here, it is people like you that I could learn from...the others seem unproductive.

Obviously it is impossible to stay involved here. I am truly interested to hear what all of you have to say on issues but it seems as soon as someone shows any sign at all of disagreement like I did, I am booted from this board. So what purpose will this forum serve if no one is allowed to speak that just might not agree with absolutely everything said here??? It will serve NO purpose - it is then only a place for all of you that think exactly alike to feed off of each other. Therefore you are not educating anyone else that may actually benefit from understanding your stand on issues. So Jokerman, I appreciate the invitation to stay around and "learn" but I'm sure after I post this message I will be booted again - and I will not be back if that happens.

By the way, anyone can sit on a board and write all day to people that share the exact same views, thoughts, etc. But what is the point of that if you're not able to share and write with people that might have differant points of view than you? If that's the case here then this truly is a waste of time, and I will gladly accept being booted from the board for a 2nd and last time.

You wrote a lot of truth in your post. It _is_ easy for us all to sit around and grouse amongst ourselves. And you're right, when someone of a different opinion shows up with a willingness to learn, we all should welcome that person with open arms.

Many of us (including myself) are very frustrated with family members, co-workers, random people in bars, etc., who disagree with us in a belligerent fashion and are not willing to listen to what we have to say. Thanks for having the guts to be willing to listen and come back after being booted.

Mods, please don't boot american-girl!

One thing to keep in mind is that this board in particular has been the target of a lot of garbage from not only Free Republic, but also personalities such as Rush Limbaugh. They have encouraged disruption and other actions here simply because they disagree with many here. When you come here, you are expected to respect the "house rules" just as we (or anyone) is supposed to respect the house rules in any other forum.

Much of what you have experienced already is simply self defense here. The moderators do a fantastic job with removing potential disruptors...although, obviously, not everyone is guilty such as it seems is your case.

They dont just ban people here that disagree with others. Ive exchanged words with several people where they were downright assholes to me, but yet, neither them nor I were booted. I think its a case by case basis.

Just sit back for a while and lurk. Never, ever censor yourself though :-)

Welcome and we hope to see you around.

58. Many of us have tried visiting boards like Free Republic, but...
...the second we've started questioning the so-called "official line", we've gotten booted. But that's only after being allowed to be abused by nearly everyone on the freeper board.

Quite frankly, most of us are sick of that attitude, and we're not going to take it anymore. If you want to discuss a topic, let's discuss it, but don't start off by being overbearing and borderline rude. If you can't deal with the DU ground rules then so be it...that's your decision, not ours.

71. Well....
If you were treated like that on Republican sites, I do not agree with that either. But then why not treat me the way you should have been treated on those boards?? And I was not overbearing or rude in my posts. I think mature adults should be able to discuss any issue on ANY site without being rude or angry.

40. Goody goody - Now what's in store for us?
1972 junior was suppose to be flying airplanes. It has been said that in the early part of 1972 junior was arrested for cocaine. Daddy fixed the court if junior would do community service. Now just where did junior do his community service. The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Houston's Third Ward, or was it Project P.U.L.L.?

And why was he doing community service? I forgot!

Check the link for a very interesting read from a retired Army colonel. It's the second last letter, written by Gerald A. Lechliter.

48. Interesting blog on *'s doings in Alabama
http://www.southerner.net/blog/awolbush.html

Privileged Son

Those who encountered Bush in Alabama remember him as an affable social drinker who acted younger than his 26 years. Referred to as George Bush, Jr. by newspapers in those days, sources say he also tended to show up late every day, around noon or one, at Blount's campaign headquarters in Montgomery. They say Bush would prop his cowboy boots on a desk and brag about how much he drank the night before.

They also remember Bush's stories about how the New Haven, Connecticut police always let him go, after he told them his name, when they stopped him "all the time" for driving drunk as a student at Yale in the late 1960s. Bush told this story to others working in the campaign "what seemed like a hundred times," says Red Blount's nephew C. Murphy Archibald, now an attorney in Charlotte, N.C., who also worked on the Blount campaign and said he had "vivid memories" of that time.

"He would laugh uproariously as though there was something funny about this. To me, that was pretty memorable, because here he is, a number of years out of college, talking about this to people he doesn't know," Archibald said. "He just struck me as a guy who really had an idea of himself as very much a child of privilege, that he wasn't operating by the same rules."

(snip)

Many of those who came into close contact with Bush say he liked to drink beer and Jim Beam whiskey, and to eat fist-fulls of peanuts, and Executive burgers, at the Cloverdale Grill. They also say he liked to sneak out back for a joint of marijuana or into the head for a line of cocaine. The newspapers that year are full of stories about the scourge of cocaine from Vietnam and China, much of it imported by the French. (Remember the French Connection?)

Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 02:13 PM by 0007
"This guy thinks he is such a cuntsman, God's gift to women," he said. "He was all duded up in his cowboy boots." ROTFLMAO I can see it now.

Now who in their right mind can see junior doing Community Service? Not unless a judge was gonna send him to jail for cocaine if he didn't.

Oh, the records where are they?? It's going on 1:00 pm now.

Scotty McClellan told us (via the press "gaggle") that the WH would only be releasing RELEVANT documents!

69. AZ - did the press buy that
that BS about "relevant?"

Of course, it would be silly to ask the WH to release ALL the information and then let us decide what's "relevant."

I hope the press raised hell about this--but I'm not sure they know how to do that anymore, sadly.
