Palin Fears Media Threaten Her First Amendment Rights
Source: ABC News

ABC News' Steven Portnoy reports: In a conservative radio interview that aired in Washington, D.C. Friday morning, Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin said she fears her First Amendment rights may be threatened by "attacks" from reporters who suggest she is engaging in a negative campaign against Barack Obama.

Palin told WMAL-AM that her criticism of Obama's associations, like those with 1960s radical Bill Ayers and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, should not be considered negative attacks. Rather, for reporters or columnists to suggest that it is going negative may constitute an attack that threatens a candidate's free speech rights under the Constitution, Palin said.

"If {the media} convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."

However she feels about the way her story has been told in the press, Palin told WMAL she is not discouraged.

"It's sort of perplexing to me, because I'm a practical person and plainspoken also, but just cutting to the chase and calling things like I see them, just like most Americans. But this has not left a bitter taste in my mouth, the bitter shots taken by the mainstream media and by some of the elitism there in Washington," Palin said.

I can't stand the way she talks. Who on earth would be able to take more than 5 minutes of this woman in the same room? She has poor grammar and her speech patterns are annoying.

I agree. Don't criticize her for the way she talks. Criticize her for what she actually said. And her whining shows she doesn't know squat about the 1st amendment.

74. Besides, constitutional freedom of speech has nothing to do with whether
other citizens criticize an individual. It refers only to denying the government any power to suppress citizens' right to speak or publish.

And the BushCo administration has definitely suppressed our freedom of speech--as well as our freedom of assembly and our freedom to petition for redress of grievances, which are also First Amendment rights she undoubtedly knows nothing about.

7. Preparing for 2012!
She wants to continue to be the "persecuted" misunderstood candidate, the one the media is "picking" on. She will need to keep the same BS going if she comes back in 2012 for a run at being the president, and she knows she needs to paint herself as the one the media is against in order to keep the radical right wing base on her side. This woman is a con artist, and if the press lets her get away with this, it will be a disgrace to journalists in this country. The woman is promoting hate, pure and simple, to say otherwise is a out and out lie by her!

Typical rw strategy
They come on to a blog or message board and say something hateful. Then, when people say, "hey, that's hateful!" they accuse the rational people of trying to suppress their right to free speech.

Lissen up, rw a-holes, unless I can censor or edit your speech, I can't deny you your right to say anything. If your idiocy is protected by the 1st Amendment, then so is my objection to your idiocy.

He doesn't scare me any where near as much as Palin's pastoral associations. She comes from the antiabortion terrorists, who have learned to whip their flocks to frenzy and murder, all the while skirting actual incitement charges. That's what she's doing now, and it might have been why she was picked.

I wish somebody in the media would address this issue.

For more information on these American terrorists, see Jessica Stein's Terror in the Name of God.

47. Okay, Sarah, let's talk about associations:

Your husband is a member of AIP, which displays enough disgust for America that they wish to separate from it completely.
You did your part for the AIP by giving rousing speeches during their conventions.
Your personal religious leaders lay hands on you and rebuke the powers of witchcraft.
You, like it or not, have been found guilty of abuse of power, which you obtusely deny.
Your running mate, McCain, was involved and censored before congress for being involved in one of the gravest S&L scams ever, Keating Five. Once again, his fondness for deregulation has us in hot water, again.

You have exercised your first amendment and we have gritted our teeth during your coded and not-so coded language, while you, Sarah, have done your part to incite hatred, instill fear, and promote violence between Americans; All the while, avoiding real issues like the plague.
Now for your future association references:
You will be in history books for being the most uninformed, ridiculous excuse for a VP nominee; a desperate attempt at reviving an utterly lifeless campaign. You will be marked by purposely running the ugliest, most divisive, and useless campaign ever, at exactly the time when Americans needed to come together.
You will be remembered (if you actually are remembered) as an opportunist who will lie through your teeth to the America you claimed to love. Oh, thats right; you only love the fringe element who agrees with your nutty, fake, witchcraft, secessionist butt.

Your first amendment rights are very safe, Sarah, and your ability to keep speaking freely will bury you.

49. Let's endeavour to address Palin's concnerns
Has the United States Congress made any law which has prohibited Sarah Palin's from exercising her religion, or establishing a religion which it has forced her to adhere to?

Has the United States Congress made any law which has prohibited Sarah Palin from saying what she wishes to say?

Has the United States Congress made any law which has prohibited Sarah Palin from starting her own newspaper, TV station, radio station, or blog?

Has the United States Congress made any law which has prevented Sarah Palin peaceably assembling her supporters and petitioning the government for a redress of grievances?

I believe I can say, with absolute certainty that the United States Congress has done NONE of these things.

Sarah Palin, however, a candidate for the executive branch of the United States government, seems to have a problem with the press being able to exercise its First Amendment rights.

In short, Ms. Palin does not understand that the First Amendment protects citizens from the government, not the government from citizens.

EPIC FAIL!

She REALLY is a stupid, disgusting, batshit nuts mouthpiece. I can hardly wait for her to return to the obscurity of extreme far north Alaska.

58. She is free to say whatever she wants. The media is free to REPORT it.
If she wants to go out in public and sound like a batshit crazy fundy then--by all means--LET her do it. In NO WAY do we want to deny her the opportunity to speak out in public about her personal beliefs.

I'd kinda like to see her out there talking about the dinosaurs roaming around with humans and the entire "Rapture" thing.

Go for it, Sarah!!!!

Bill of Rights.

Hey, toots, the First Amendment means you can say what you want. Not that people can't criticize you for saying something, which would be a violation of THEIR civil rights, not yours, twit. :puke:

Palin is the most dangerous demagogue this country has seen in decades. You have to go back to McCarthy or pre-WWII KKK politicans to see similar behavior.

The economic troubles paired with Palin do harken back to the late 1920s Germany. I suspect many Jewish voters old enough to remember that time see the parallels, as well.

Palin MUST BE DESTROYED.

The same was true of Bush.

about "First Amendment Rights".

Sarah Palin DOES NOT know a thing about anything rights written for WE the People by our forefathers. Her words and sentences never make sense to me. She speaks in circle as well as language to nowhere.

Obviously Sarah has an interpreter to interpret what people are saying in plain English back to her in her own circle nonsense language.

her at her word and never once question anything she says. When they do challenge her then they are violating her right to free speech.

She doesn't want you to call her lies lies or her personal attacks personal attacks....because to do so violates her free speech. She wants to sling dirt built on little to no facts without once being called on it. She wants to be racist and to incite violence and she wants to get away with it.

Yeah...alrighty then.

86. Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, please Sarah, leave the Constitutional law to those who are trained in it
You know, like your opponent, Mr. Obama. All you're doing with these interpretations that you're pulling out of your ass, like your wish to expand the VP powers, and now stating that those who are calling you on your bullshit are threatening your First Amendment rights, all that you're doing is making yourself look stupid, petty, uninformed and vindictive.

You have the First Amendment right to get up in front of an audience and spew whatever the fuck you want to spew. That is freedom of speech. The media, or even ordinary folks like myself have the right to say that you're conducting negative attacks and a negative campaign. That is our right under the First Amendment.

What you're proposing Sarah is actually a contraction of the First Amendment, an assault on the First Amendment that would benefit you and your RW ilk. Sorry, but that's not going to happen.

Oh, and one other thing Sarah, you brainless, soulless, clueless twit. You have absolutely no business holding any public office, including that of mayor of Alaska's meth capital, simply due to your petty, vindictive, power hungry nature coupled with an almost complete lack of critical thinking skills. Thankfully your moment is about up, you are going to get squashed in the election, then indicted by the Alaska government, and by the time you fight your way clear of that mess, people will have come to their senses and reject both you and your politics of hate and ignorance.

90. Sarah, dear, as to the First Amendment ...
there can only be a First Amendment violation if the violator is the government or one of its agents.

Now, Dear, tell me, what are the three branches of government, and where are they defined in the U.S. Constitution?

If you can't answer that, Sarah, then you shouldn't even contemplate being a world leader.

Now, go home to Alaska!
