Democrat Kay Hagan Pulls Ahead By Six Points In N.C.
Edited on Fri Oct-31-08 11:04 AM by maddezmom
Source: WKHP

Democrat Kay Hagan now holds a six-point lead over incumbent Republican Senator Elizabeth Dole in North Carolina.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Tar Heel State shows Hagan with 52% of the vote and Dole with 46%. Three weeks ago, Hagan held a five-point advantage.

This is the fourth straight Rasmussen Reports survey to show Hagan in the lead. In May, Rasmussen Reports was the first polling firm to show Hagan ahead of Dole, a result that was harshly challenged by the Dole campaign. Over the summer, a television advertising blitz put Dole back on top until mid-September.

Tar Heel opinions of the incumbent continue to slide. Just 46% of voters statewide now have a favorable opinion of her, down from 49% earlier this month. Fifty percent (50%) have an unfavorable opinion of Dole, including 31% with a Very Unfavorable opinion.

Dole Says “The Ad Stays Up”
Written by Adam Hicks

Friday, October 31 2008
Earlier this week, Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, Kay Hagan, announced she warned her opponent, Elizabeth Dole, that if she did not pull an ad off the air that called Hagan “godless,” she would file a cease-and-desist order to have it removed legally.

While at her campaign rally in Boone Thursday, Dole told Aisling Broadcasting she will not pull the ad.

Critics slam Dole ad as Hagan fights back

U.S. Senate candidate Kay Hagan launched legal action against Sen. Elizabeth Dole's “godless” attack ad Thursday as a chorus of critics joined her in accusing Dole of crossing the line with the controversial TV spot.

~snip~

But even Republicans – including strategists Ed Rollins and Carter Wrenn – roundly criticized Dole's eleventh-hour re-election strategy.

“When you're making ads that say, ‘There is no God,' it usually means your campaign doesn't have a prayer,” said Alex Castellanos, a GOP consultant speaking Thursday on CNN. He's familiar with controversial ads – he created former Sen. Jesse Helms' infamous “white hands” ad suggesting opponent Harvey Gantt supported racial quotas that would take jobs from white people.

Rollins, who advised Presidents Nixon and Reagan, told CNN Dole's campaign “did something desperate, which is so despicable and so un-like Elizabeth Dole that she should be ashamed of herself. ”

5. Kay Hagan is NOT an Atheist. She's a Presbyterian Church elder who teaches Sunday School.Updated at 12:21 AM
But nobody's perfect.

I'd donate to her anyway.

(FYI: My wife's aunt is a Presbyterian minister. She'd be surprised to learn that Presbyterians are Atheists.)

They think the sun rises and sets on their holier-than-thou selves. I do hope after Hagan wins, she'll come out in defense of atheists, as they have a right to be represented in government as much as anyone else.

10. Good point
If people like Dole don't care for religious freedom at home, they might at least care about how it might affect their foreign relations. By her vile slurs on atheists, she is insulting countries that have atheists among their top leaders, and where large proportions of their citizens are atheists.

So says LB the evil atheist voter for our openly atheist MP, in America's most closely allied country with an openly atheist Foreign Secretary, in what religious nuts call the 'dark continent' of secular Europe. We've had atheist MPs since the 1880s. Dole seems to want to be ruled by the Spanish Inquisition or the Taliban or something.

In any case, she isn't following the ethics of the Bible as I understand it. There is quite a lot in that about being meek and loving thy neighbour and not bearing false witness! I hope that in the end the part of the Bible that most applies to her is that line from 'Proverbs:
"Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall."

11. God.
Man, even with all the change we're poised to bring about, this election cycle still breaks my heart.

Real America/Fake America.

Pro-America/Anti-America.

Now it's crossing over to faith. Dole's ad is just a sign of things to come. Soon it'll be My God/Your God. Real God/Fake God. Worthy Faith/Worthless Faith.

It's heartbreaking that this is going on.

In case you had the idea that atheists had a place in the Democratic party, think again. In this video, Wolf Blitzer interviews some Dems to discuss this tactic of the Dole campaign. Kay Hagan's response ad is played. Wolf asks if it's okay to associate with atheists. The panel roundly slams atheism but avoids answering the question directly.

20. There is a distinct difference between the usual mud-slinging and this boon to democrats everywhere
Impugning a person's record or their stance on an issue or even their personal "failings" (drug use, adultery, sexual preferences, esp. if there is hypocrisy involved) is different than impugning their character and/or their religiosity. In the very Southern Baptist south that is treading, literally and figuratively, on sacred ground.

That is where Dole crossed the line.

I'm not even a Christian and I find this line of attack utterly distasteful and reeking of desperation.

Then, there is the unspoken subtext of the ad: That Hagen "traded her soul to the devil" in exchange for political support. A Dole "rally" of about 125 people showed up next door to me on Wednesday. The local Republican Chairman Charlton Allen ( charltonallen@msn.com from the Iredell GOP website http://www.iredellgop.com / ) said in his introduction to Dole's appearance - and I quote- "These people (Godless Americans) are pure, unadulterated evil."

I hope the ad keeps running. I hope Hagan sucessfully sues Dole's pants off. I hope Godless Americans gets in on the act. I hope Hagen wins both the election and finally roots out the Neo-Con rot at the heart of our govenrment.

22. If this isn't a clear example
of the untrustworthness of republican leaders then I don't know what is...

Just as wrong as so called "Christians" not being capable of honestly calling Obama a fellow Christian... Why do they have to be dishonest? Why then do they think the people should trust them.

All the hypocrites need to be voted out next week.

Let's hit it hard...
