Neo-Nazi Obama Plot One of "A Handful" of "Serious" Threats Against ObamaUpdated at 3:23 PM
Source: ABC News

Secret Service Reports Record Number of Assassination Threats

The arrests Monday in an alleged neo-Nazi assassination plot against Sen. Barack Obama involve one of a handful of serious threats against the Democratic presidential candidate, federal law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

The officials say Obama has been the target of well over 500 threats, most of which are not taken seriously.

But in an estimated dozen or so cases, the threat was considered serious enough that law enforcement agents were assigned to track down suspects.

Threats of violence, harsh invective, language such as "get rid of" or "kill" or "eliminate" are all considered triggers for possible investigation, officials say.

...

Officials say there have been far fewer threats against Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain.

Each candidate has a security detail of equal size, considered a "vice-presidential level" size, according to law enforcement officials. Secret Service agents are augmented by a heavy presence of state and local police, but in uniform and undercover.

or McCain or Palin have anything to worry about for their physical safety.

15. Those skinheads were in fantasyland. Please.
Remember that this "plot" was more of a threat for the students in that high school they planned to target first. And even that was ludicrous. BEHEADINGS? In their fantasy, all those people just stood still and let them do it?

I don't mind a bit that their swaggering is landing them in more trouble than they ever imagined. Going to be lovely how they deal with prison life.

17. Its not so much this particular plot or group of individuals, but I read
something last night about there having been about 500 threats against him so far and I think about a dozen of them being taken seriously. Regardless of the number, I guess, it only takes one (albeit better planned than this one) to send this country into a serious tail spin. Its happened before and I just don't want to see it happy again because the repercussions could be practically cataclysmic.

I hope he gets security as good as Bush has had with the 30 mile no fly zone, etc.. The last 8 years have been a tragedy, we don't need any more on the brink of finally turning things around.

4. For me, Obama being president is a great conciousness shift
that will bring about much needed relief and change. I will be delighted to see , in my physical lifetime, Obama as president, something I couldnt have imagined back in the 50s as a child.
On the other hand, there are always a lot of people who need to blame someone, and they join groups that feed on fear and terror and scapegoating...its what the nazis were adept at doing...blaming a whole group of people...it is what the inquisition was also good at..blaming others for what they thought was wrong with the world..
Obama will be just fine, he will be well protected from the skinheads of the world. I would be more concerned with the neocons and their cohorts not wanting Obama in office. They seem to be far more dangerous to me, and I still dont buy the Lee Harvey Oswald one shooter B.S. , so if Obama needs to watch his back it seems to me he should watch out for those at the highest level who are afraid of his policies. Neocons, their corporate friends, and whomever else benefitted from the last 8 yrs of greed .

11. Yes... actually
As far as I know, the S.S. has already started files on all the people who can be identified as shouting threats and the like, at the senator. They are being watched.
The question is, how much begging, internally, went into getting even THESE arrests to happen?

20. There was an article here a week or two ago about that
The Secret Service pretty much said they're investigating them and will (not may, will) start making arrests and pressing charges as soon as they can put faces to the words.

6. These people are dangerous and should be taken seriously.
I just watched a documentary on the neo-Nazi movement in America. As vile, disgusting, and disturbed as I thought they were before I watched the documentary, I still wasn't even close to realizing how sick they really are. They think nothing of assassinating a public figure to "send a message" - they have followed through on their threats in the past.

These people are dangerously warped, and I am glad to see law enforcement taking them seriously. They are terrorists in every sense of the word.

I'm sure they will be devoted to making sure nothing happens. The fact that they caught this one plot shows they can infiltrate these groups and catch these things early.

The SPLC works very closely with law enforcement and infiltrates those hate groups. They gather intelligence and report any real threats to the proper authorities. They are a worthy cause to donate to.
