Poll: 7 in 10 Americans Say Obama Will Win
Source: Gallup

PRINCETON, NJ -- By a 71% to 23% margin, Americans expect that Barack Obama will be elected president in next Tuesday's election, including a 49% to 46% ratio of John McCain's own supporters who say Obama, rather than their own candidate, will win.

Belief that Obama will win has increased significantly from last June, when Americans viewed his victory as probable by a narrower 52% to 41% margin.

As is often the case for candidates who are down in the polls in the last weeks of a campaign, McCain has incorporated into his speech a statement to the effect that despite polls showing him losing to Obama, he will ultimately win.

The current Gallup Poll data, from Oct. 23-26, suggest that McCain's own supporters have not yet come to the point where they agree with their candidate that he will be able to pull off a victory in the election. By a 49% to 46% margin, McCain voters say Obama will win. On the other hand, perhaps not surprisingly, Obama voters overwhelmingly believe that their candidate will win, by a 94% to 2% margin ...

Election 2008
Obama Tells Supporters Not To Let Up
by Don Gonyea

Morning Edition, October 28, 2008 · One week before Election Day, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is laying out his case to be president. He gave a speech Monday in Canton, Ohio, that his campaign described as Obama's "closing argument." He told supporters they can't afford to slow down or let up for one day, one minute or one second.

2. even my indiana family has proclaimed this and they are sulking a bit
and in the small , usually red small town I am in in michigan, the front page news on our weekly paper this week announced that the voter registration in this community has tripled this year, which is unprecedented. change is a-foot.
In 2004 I went to sleep assured, and woke up deflated. I am now in Zen Mode, with no expectations.
May the force be with us.

6. I wonder if they will still be sulking a year from now.
Fox News viewers may be surprised when none of the dire predictions offered by their propaganda channel has come true.

Remember 1993, when the wingnuts said that Clinton's tax increase would lead to a Depression? Not a single Republican in Congress voted for it. America subsequently experienced the greatest period of peacetime prosperity in its history, although of course that all ended when Al Gore won the 2000 election and george w. bush was appointed president. Now we are back to unwinnable wars, an economic crisis, and crippling debt, all the result of failed Republican policies John McCain is pledged to continue.

And yet your family is "sulking" because an end to this nightmare is finally in sight. What gives?

7. heh. They vote on 3 things
guns, abortion, and gays. Thats about it . I tried once to explain the fine points to them, that guns wont be outlawed, that gays wont take over the country, and that less abortions would occur if people had decent jobs and wages.
But , alas, that is what they vote on. always have. Until Roe v Wade, my mom and dad were democrats. go figure. Now its just my mom, and she is more catholic then Mel Gibson.

9. It's probably mostly abortion, right?
I can see how if you really, truly believe deep in your heart that abortion equals murder, period, then in order to be true to yourself you would have to treat the issue as a deal-breaker. Frankly, I have more respect for a single-issue voting decision based on a life-or-death, existential issue like abortion than one that is ultimately based on prejudice and/or misinformation (i.e., the gays and the guns). Even if I disagree on the premise.

12. yes, its mostly about abortion
I tried to explain to my mother that every GOP presidency has not changed roe vs wade..if anything ,abortions go up somewhat during GOP presidencies..in fact, I think the GOP prefers abortion not to be outlawed, because thats a huge voting bloc for them...
so I also tried to explain to her that a set of policies that brought good paying jobs and a social system that looked after people would ultimately decrease the no of abortions because people would be able to afford their children.
she is adamant, and does equate abortion with outright murder, but i equate war in iraq with outright murder, as i told her, and she actually agreed with me on that, but cannot let go of the abortion issue.
she also bought into the commie scares of the 50s, and still thinks commies are under her bed, basically, waiting like vicious socialist dogs to take over the united states.
my brother is an active nra guy, he feeds her a lot of fear.
needless to say, i am considered the odd one out in the family. i love them anyway, from afar.

no intention to overthrow Roe v Wade. that it is only an election tactic. They want to keep it alive as a divisive issue.

16. True, and how lazy they are being
If it is so important to them, they should be counseling in the clinics rather than just waiting for the Supreme Court to be packed with right wing nutjobs. And it never will be - if the repukes lose the wedge issues, they won't get the votes. People will go back to their economic interests and thus vote Democratic.

8. makes me wonder what the stats are
on extremist christian fundamentalists in the united states..is it about 23 percent? My family in indiana are ultra catholics or right wing religious . So it boils down to abortion, gays and guns with them. Always the same thing.
