Ballots short on postage will count, agency vows
By JANE MUSGRAVE

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Ernie Lendman, who has homes in Palm Beach and Virginia Beach, is suspicious that he narrowly dodged efforts to keep his vote from counting.

While the Palm Beach County elections office said $1.17 in postage would get his absentee ballot for the Nov. 4 presidential election delivered, postal officials in Virginia said it would take $1.36 to get it to West Palm Beach.

...

Rest easy, officials at the U.S. Postal Service say.

Even if people put the wrong postage on absentee ballots, they will be delivered, said Gary Sawtelle, a Postal Service spokesman.

Give it $100 million to handle postage for up to 80 million absentee ballots nationwide. That comes out to an average of $1.25 per absentee ballot for postage if about half the voters do absentee. Some states, like CA only require 60 cents for postage, others require as much as $1.40. It will all even out.
