McCain got $7 million in excess donations: DNC
Source: WASHINGTON (Reuters)

John McCain received nearly $7 million in 6,652 donations that exceeded contribution limits while seeking the Republican presidential nomination, the Democratic National Committee said on Saturday.

The DNC listed the figure in a complaint it said it will file on Monday with the Federal Election Commission. The Republican National Committee filed a similar complaint on October 5, alleging Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama had not done enough to weed out illegal contributions.

In a copy of the DNC posted on the Internet, the DNC said on Saturday it compiled its information by examining donations recorded on McCain's campaign Web site.

"Analysis of the information ... shows that the McCain Campaign has received 6,653 contributions each of which was at least $1,000 in excess of the applicable $2,300 limit to the primary campaign," the DNC complaint said. ...

Upon reareading, I correct my compassion. If they started this shit with their phony accusations and their "plants" sending in bogus donations, yes, we CAN!

14. I'm not surprised
I'm sure they will be spending way in excess of their limit and skirt all laws this coming week.

They will do everything they can to hold on to power...I'm more concerned about the voter intimidation, disenfranchisement, vote switching, etc. Because at this point, I'm convinced we have more support...but the question is, will that translate to votes?

23. MTP
Surely you jest, as we used to say. There are so many issues that have been quietly slipped under the MSM radar, that the pile is noticeable to any who look. Somehow, at the risk of re-repeating myself, they don't get it. You just can't hide much of anything anymore. There are e-mails-receipts,all-seeing phones that do videos and get to you-tube before you get to desert. I am so afraid that this is more then sloppy, it is much more sinister, they don't care. It is hard to understand how bad they are even if they tried to be bad. My own personal hope is that all legitimate voters vote and all votes are counted. As long as I am engaged in fantasy, I wish the vote was Monday, just to get it over with. I'm mostly agnostic, however, if there is a god, he/she is laughing their ass off.

27. Brokaw is a "liaison" for the McCain campaign so they get a "fare shake" on NBC News shows
Tuesday's New York Times features a profile of Tom Brokaw ahead of the October 7 presidential debate being hosted by the veteran NBC newsman. The Times reveals that Brokaw has "played a pivotal role out of public view, both within NBC and in its dealings with the campaign of John McCain in particular."

His mission, he said, was to assure the candidate's aides that -- despite some negative on-air commentary by Mr. Olbermann in particular -- Mr. McCain could still get a fair shake from NBC News. Mr. Brokaw said he had been told by a senior McCain aide, whom he did not name, that the campaign had been reluctant to accept an NBC representative as one of the moderators of the three presidential debates -- until his name was invoked.

"One of the things I was told by this person was that they were so irritated, they said, 'If it's an NBC moderator, for any of these debates, we won't go,' " Mr. Brokaw said. "My name came up, and they said, 'Oh, hell, we have to do it, because it's going to be Brokaw.' "

31. Lets not forget ...

Lets not forget that Tom Brokaw is on broadcast TV, Olbermann and Maddow are on cable. So there is still no parity even on NBC. And lets not forget that NBC is owned by an arms contractor.

In the end I think that NBC has discovered a nice demographic to appeal to in information programming. So they will let liberals on the air. It's about the money. But perhaps they don't want to let them too far afield. So the implicit bias of WHAT to cover is still present in NBCs "regular" news broadcasts.
