Star Tribune of Minneapolis endorses Barack Obama

Oct 25 2008 3:39PM
Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Star Tribune of Minneapolis is endorsing Democrat Barack Obama for president but it supports the incumbent Republican in the state's senate race.

The Star Tribune says both presidential candidates are flawed, but it hopes Obama can deliver on his promise of uniting America and taking a bipartisan approach to addressing Washington's problems.

The paper acknowledges criticism that Obama isn't experienced enough, but faults John McCain for selecting the inexperienced Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

The Star Tribune favors Sen. Norm Coleman over Democratic challenger Al Franken and Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley. It says Coleman has shown good judgment in the Senate and is evolving into an agent of bipartisanship.

2. The Star Tribune is owned by Avista Capital Partners,
...a Wall Street firm.

The editorial emphasizes that Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN) voted for the $700 billion bailout of Wall Street firms, while Al Franken said he would have voted No.

3. "has shown good judgment in the Senate"
Yeah. Right. By voting with Bush.

I'm glad we're endorsing Obama but that Coleman thing is a disgrace.

No. I'm not proud to work here (the STrib). Oh well, my head is on the chopping block anyway.
