John McCain: 'I'm gonna test them'

The Republican Party is portraying Obama as "untested" -- as it calls him in a new ad airing today. McCain is portraying himself as the "tested'' one.

But today, McCain raised a new question that could escalate that sound-bite campaign war: Who is he "gonna test" if elected president? And how?

"I have been tested," McCain said, with a certain gritted-teeth look at the state fairgrounds in New Mexico. "I'm gonna test them. They're not gonna test me."

The comment followed McCain's warning that Democratic rival Barack Obama's camaign has "guaranteed" people that the nation will face a test from enemies within months of Obama's election as president -- something that running mate Joe Biden asserted last weekend, Biden following that line with a remark that Obama has a "spine of steel" for that test.

Please, please, someone ask McCain the following question.

McCain claims he was sitting in an airplane on the flight deck of the USS Forrestal, waiting for Pres. Kennedy to issue the order for McCain to drop a bomb on "a target". He finishes his statement with "I have been tested".

He is a liar, a dissembler, an obfuscator, pick your favorite.

The test was NOT how to handle a potentially deadly crisis initiated by a foreign power. The only test was one McCain had failed before - while he was a
POW.

As a military person, he was required to obey orders. There is no gray area here.
That was all he was required to do. If the order came to take to the sky and bomb his "target" (we don't even know if it was in Cuba), he would or he wouldn't. If he obeyed the order, fine - although one would hope he didn't bomb
Key West. If he didn't, he would be subjected to a general court martial and if the period was after a declaration of war, the penalty included death by firing squad. Okay, since his daddy had some influence, maybe he could have gotten himself declared Section 8 material or something.

"Senator McCain, please describe how an order from a superior officer to what is essentially an automaton (a military person who is required to obey such orders under penalty of death) is the same as 'round the clock' high level discussions among the president and his most senior advisers as to the best course of action to accomplish our goal and avoid war.

Wait a minute. I already know the answer - I just want to hear the senile old fool say it.

How was he tested? He crashed 5 planes. He drank and ran around. He came in 5th? in his class. He was a senator for 26 years and didn't do anything to help anyone but the rich. How was he tested? He left his first wife for a rich, younger woman. Is his test that he had to marry Cindy? Just asking.
