16. What a relief that would be
With any luck there isn't anything going on beyond some absent minded re-enactors or something similiar, who knows, anything is better than a random shooter. If it is a group of random shooters though, it must really suck to be prohibited from being armed while people stalk around shooting at you and your classmates.

14. Police are investigating.
The South Campus building on Nashville Road was evacuated earlier following reports that one or more persons were observed in the building with weapons. WKU Police, Bowling Green Police and State Police have conducted an extensive search of the building and the premises. At this time, the police have been unable to find any witnesses or evidence to support earlier reports that weapons were present.

Following this, WKU PD received an unconfirmed report of shots fired in the vicinity of Pearce Ford Tower on the WKU main campus.

Police have confirmed that there was a physical altercation not involving weapons between individuals that occurred in or near PFT, but the police are interviewing witnesses on the scene to determine if weapons were or are present, or if shots were fired.

18. Maybe it's related to WKU's commie mascot, Big Red (a giant red dot)
But do not fear -- WKU has a strong ROTC program. Go get 'em, boys!

Seriously, we live near WKU -- last week it was our son's college, Middle Tennessee State (1 hour east of Nashville) with threat/lockdown/cancelling classes. What's going on around here?!

21. Situation under control, some confusion about shots/altercation
They later sent a text message warning students to seek shelter
after the reports of shots fired in or near Pearce Ford Tower residence hall, on the school's main campus, though those reports were also unconfirmed.

According to the Web site, police confirmed that there was some type of fight that occurred in or near the residence hall, but they could not confirm that weapons were involved or shots were fired. The school is about an hour north of Nashville, Tenn.

"What we believe we have is an altercation between a group of individuals," school spokeswoman Robbin Taylor told CNN. "It began in one area of the campus, moved to another area of the campus."

22. Total false alarm? excellent.
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 03:00 PM by tburnsten
The idiot who called in shots fired or that they "saw" a weapon should get to have a nice meet and greet with officer friendly though, these days it is incredibly dangerous to go around claiming you hear gunshots on a school campus. Hopefully no one had an anxiety-induced health problem because of it.

24. Yes. A total, hysterical false alarm.
Many suspect it was an intentional false alarm.

Regional police have been in Bowling Green doing intensive SWAT training for the last couple weeks. Looks like they wanted to get out play and bit.

They haven't had a chance to shoot any Mexicans for the last year and we think they're getting bored.

http://media.www.wkuherald.com/media/storage/paper603/news/2008/10/23/News/Fight.And.Frenzy-3501993.shtml

<snip>

So what really happened?

Much less than you heard: Western officials later say there are no confirmed shots or weapons on campus.

The guy who broke his arm stopping a fight? False. Someone suffered minor injuries in the fight. Howard Bailey, vice president of student affairs, later shakes his hand.

But students are convinced otherwise for hours Wednesday, as panic and policemen blanket the campus.
