Gay attorney plays key role in McCain campaign
Source: Washington Blade

Trevor Potter, a former chair of the U.S. Federal Election Commission who is gay, is serving as the top lawyer for the presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

As the campaign’s general counsel, Potter has been identified by newspapers such as the New York Times and Washington Post as one of the nation’s most highly regarded experts on U.S. election laws. Potter has been credited with helping draft the McCain-Feingold Act, a bipartisan federal measure that reformed federal campaign finance laws.

But few mainline news outlets have reported on Potter’s other role as a high-level, openly gay adviser to McCain.

Those who know Potter say he has been out to the GOP presidential nominee and to most of the Republican Party’s political establishment for many years.

I completely understand where you are coming from, and regardless of which party he belongs to, my thought is that we do not attack our own. He will understand in 10 years what a disgrace he was to do this for McCain.

How come he can....because he is.... but we can't? Tell it to Trevor.

Your fairness is oh-so-noble but it's BS. He and all Log Cabin Repug deserve all the ridicule they can get. Fools! living in a fantasy world where they think they are accepted and respected. Wake up....you self loathing asshats!

8. We do not attack 'our own'?
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 03:03 PM by Eryemil
Since when? Just because I might happen to share the queer gene with some asshole does not mean that it automatically makes him one of 'my own'. We queers above all others should know what the value of choosing family and the labels we wish to be identified as.

This person is NOT one of my own. My own would not lend themselves to a campaign seeking to marginalize us and undo every bit of work we've bled and cried for in the last two decades.
Screw him, all the Log Cabin Republicans and all the closet case, self-loathing Republicans. We have nothing in common.

He is working overtime to put people in power who would prefer he didn't exist, and in the case of Palin and her fans, would gladly stone him and all other gays in the streets.

9. Another example of the "I got mine, screw everyone else" GOP attitude.
Undoubtedly, the guy is wealthy enough that he doesn't have to worry about the financial benefits of marriage. Likewise, he is well-connected enough that he could force his way into the sick room of a partner no matter what the 'rules' are at the hospital. And, because he's one-of-them, the hypocritical members of his party are willing to look the other way regarding his "sin", so he suffers no social ostracism either.

12. I really didn't see Joe Biden
putting a lot of daylight between himself and Caribou Barbie during the debate when the subject came to marriage equality. I really expected more leadership from him and Sen. Obama on this. But they seem to be content to let sleeping dogs lie on this issue, and to skirt it on the way to the White House. I guess that's smart, but when even McLame is OK with a gay lawyer working for him, again, I guess GLBT rights are not that much of an issue for the non-fundie Repukes anymore.
