NYU poll: Two-thirds of U.S. Jews back Obama over McCain

A new poll commissioned by researchers at New York University reveals that American Jews favor Democratic presidential frontrunner Barack Obama over his Republic rival, John McCain, by a 67 ? 33 percent margin.

The survey, which sampled the opinions of over 3,000 respondents - half of them being Jewish - also found that Jews as an ethnic group will support Obama by almost 30 percent more than other white, non-Hispanic voters.

The poll sought to gauge the importance Jewish voters attach to Israel as a consideration in whom they would vote for, with some surprising results. Of all the Jews surveyed who said that Israel is of "high" importance, 63 percent said they would vote for Obama. In contrast, only 42 percent of Jews who said Israel has "very high" importance said they planned to vote for Obama.

Not surprisingly, the Jewish vote swings heavily in McCain's favor among the Orthodox. According to the survey, the Arizona senator can count on support from 75 percent of Orthodox Jewish voters.

7 to 9 point spread. This is also comparing where the votes are and where the votes were. Considering 13% are undecided, it is still way too soon to tell, but, as usual, it will be almost 3 to 1, democratic candidate over republican.

And, as I said, 13% are still "undecided." Generally, those votes will go to the democratic candidate. Just as McCain's popularity is waning in the overall population, it is more than likely doing the same in the Jewish community. I only know one Jew voting for McCain and he is a selfish little prick, and because he is my youngest brother, I am pretty sure I can characterize him as such. Even my brother that voted for Bush (TWICE), as finally woken up and smelled the Matzo Ball soup and realized 4 more years of Republican rule will destroy what is left of his career (he is also selfish and self-absorbed, but now he has a family which relies upon him).

one reason given on why the Orthodox are happier with her and McCain, is that they favor school vouchers. This is one area where they are in sync with Christian fundamentalists.

Now, it is often said that one is known by the company one keeps. If that is true, McCain/Palin are terrible people indeed. Certainly not people that any person of Jewish faith or Semitic provenance would want to associate themselves with.

The frothers of the Caribou Breath persuasion are on the very thin cusp of both white supremacism and Christian Identity, if not completely over the line by parsecs. One of the major, genetic-level tenets for these folks is "Da' Evul J00Z!!1!11", complete with the blood libel, The Protocols of The Elsers of Zion(scabrous little tome, that...), pictures with big noses, "Khazar" as a term of profanity and all the other stuff that anyone who has followed these clowns for any period of time knows and despises.

As BTA put it, in the past, his brother has voted repuke out of some sense of self-absorption. One can imagine that some of that came from a sense that his personal economic situation demanded it of him.
