Obama opens 6-point lead over McCain
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Democrat Barack Obama has expanded his national lead over Republican John McCain in the U.S. presidential race to 6 percentage points, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Monday.

Obama leads McCain 50 percent to 44 percent among likely U.S. voters in the latest three-day tracking poll, up from Obama's 3-point advantage on Sunday. The telephone poll has a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.

The rally by Obama broke a string of three consecutive days when McCain had gained ground on the Illinois senator after their final debate on Wednesday. It was the first time in 14 days of the tracking poll that Obama has reached 50 percent.

"Obama has really consolidated his base, and now has huge leads among young people, African-Americans and Hispanics," said pollster John Zogby. "Reaching 50 percent puts him in winning territory."

So much for CNN's bullshit of "the race is tightening" from the lies of John King (who wants to keep his options open to work at Fox News) and Bill (Iraq War Cheerleader) Schneider.

1. CNN's stuff they released today is based on week-old data.
I'm sure the next one will show these expanding numbers for Obama.

Saw the sucker in DC last week. He's a tool, and his rep is toast from this absurdity.

6. I'm losing all faith in CNN
They seem to be cherrypicking the poll or polls which reflect a tightening. I halfheartedly watched Dobbs tonight (we need a nickname for him, BTW) and they had the "BREAKING News -- race is tightening" text up at the bottom. I hate to say it, but I may abandon CNN altogether.

7. 50% is a nice number, but 270 is the one that counts.
RCP's electoral map shows Obama with 286 electoral votes solid or leaning, McCain with 155, and 97 as toss-ups, with Obama leading by small margins in most toss-up states. The only change in the map today is that Montana has gone from a solid McCain lead to just leaning McCain. McCain's support seems to be weak in a number of states that should be solidly Republican, including North Dakota, North Carolina, Ohio, Florida, and Missouri. Virginia is already leaning Obama by 6%. The last poll showing McCain with a lead in Virginia was way back on October 1st. With no toss-ups, RCP calls it 364 to 174 for Obama. 538.com predicts 344 to 194.
