Fossella (R-NY) convicted of drunken driving
Source: Associated Press

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — A judge has has convicted Rep. Vito Fossella of drunken driving and will later decide if he should serve time in jail.

The New York Republican was arrested May 1 in the suburbs outside Washington, leading to revelations he had fathered a child from an extramarital affair. After the scandal, he decided not to seek re-election.

Alexandria, Va., General District Court Judge Becky Moore found Fossella guilty, and scheduled a Dec. 8 hearing to decide if prosecutors had met the legal requirement for high blood alcohol content, which would mean a mandatory five-day jail sentence.

3. You may remember some time ago, Patrick Kennedy was found maybe asleep in his car,
or something (can't remember) in Washington, and did NOT register as drunk, but had been taking some strong prescription medicine, as in this article:
Kennedy Says He Was Disoriented From Prescription Drugs
Miriam Wright 2 years ago

Rep. Patrick Kennedy crashed his car near the Capitol early Thursday, and a police official said he appeared intoxicated. Kennedy said he had taken sleep medication and a prescription anti-nausea drug that can cause drowsiness.

He originally issued a statement saying he had not been drinking. But late Thursday, his chief of staff handed out a statement saying he was on a prescribed combination of Ambien -- a sleep medication -- and Phenergan -- an anti-nausea drug.

In his statement, Kennedy said he was treated Tuesday for gasroenteritis and given Phenergran, which can cause drowsiness.

DU was infested by a collection of droning, preachy, pompous ass Freeps who admonished everyone Patrick Kennedy had broken the law, had endangered everyone's well-being, should be forced to leave public life, yammer, yadda, yadda.

I need to know why were aren't lucky enough to get their input on this story, after all! Seems to me if they meant to be fair, they'd be here droning on and on about Vito Fossella, as well!

for the same reason that DUers hoped that Kennedy gets the help he needs but want Fosella prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It's the letter after his name.

For the record, Kennedy did not "register as drunk" because no field sobriety tests were administered at the scene, and the police brought him home rather than to jail or a hospital. Kennedy may not have asked for special treatment, but he did get it. Shortly after, he entered rehab for what was called a "prescription drug" problem.
